I don't know how long you've been in Korea and I also don't know what your future plans are, but I think you should get the F-2 extended. If you've had it for two years or more, you might also want to look into applying for the F-5. The place may decide to not hire you if you all of a sudden want an E-2 rather than the F-2...they will have to be your E-2 sponsor. Why not get sth in the contract like, "School will provide a one-way ticket to hometown/nearest international airport to hometown or cash-in-lieu upon completion of contract"? You can use the money then for your trip to Japan.
p.s. Where are you getting the 60,000 number from? Also, depending on the company, they may only pay for your airfare over to Japan...you'll still have to pay for the hotel, food, train, visa, etc. |

| I'd say you should probably renew your F-2. In terms of the visa run, I'd say it doesn't apply. On the flip side, make sure you get a return ticket. |
