Purely hypothetical at this point:

A company wants to hire me in a professional capacity, ASAP. They'd need to sponsor me for an E5 visa.

Naturally, my hagwon wouldn't want to let me out of my contract ASAP and give me a letter of release from my E2.

If you do a runner on an E2, word is you're poop canned for the E2 for the balance of the visa.

Anyone know if this would be the case for an E5? Would they reject you for an E5 based on your name being in the system already for an E2?

There is no automatic hold on getting an E5 visa during the duration of one's E2, but if the academy files a complaint with Immigration over losses as a result of the sudden departure then you may be denied a new visa.

Basically it comes down to the academy owner not filing a complaint. Because you would be leaving and returning during a short time period, it's more likely that any denial of a work visa would happen during a renewal of the E5 should you stay with the company (or try to get a new visa down the road).

I suspected you might have some knowledge in that area Smile I'm sure I could talk my way out of it... not a runner per se. Tell a white lie or two:

"I got a fantastic job back in Canada and I have to move quickly on this" or "My mother died."

You know. They're not unreasonable people but then they might not move so quick to do things like go down to immigration with me or figure out on their own what format the letter of release takes...
