|
|
| I bought one a couple days ago, and now I feel like I have a stomach flu. I couldn't eat anything all day yesterday without feeling like i was going to puke. I didn't boil the water, so I wonder if the thing is a waste of money. I don't feel like boiling water, and then sending it through the filter. Anyone had any problems with them? |

There is a cold going around. My entire family is currently sick.
I would consult Brita's website for more information. |

from the Brita website:
"The technique of a carbon block is not designed to filter out bacteria or viruses."
I guess I'll be taking it back |

Why?
It filters out things that boiling can't get rid of, like heavy metals.
So boil the water as well (which will kill the viruses and bacteria), and you're completely safe. |

Or just get 19 liter jugs of cooler water delivered to your door for 5000 won. |

Now and then, they offer the water cooler itself for free (well, long term loan, I think) if you agree to buy 4 of those jugs per month. That's what my wife and I do. Great service too. Every second Thursday he heaves 2 big jugs up 4 floors and takes away the empties. For 5000 per jug I think it's a bargain. Hot water on demand and nice, clean cold water.
You will probably need a Korean to call the local water delivery company (mine is Pulmuone. The biggest and most trusted according to my wife).
Do I trust the bottled water? Well, I've been drinking it for 5 years now since I came to Korea. Hasn't made me sick yet. Nor the other millions of people who drink cooler water everyday! |

| I'm going to get a water cooler setup like that. If they tell me I have to buy my own water cooler or rent one, I will probably just go down the street to the used electronics and furniture store to buy it. I saw some down there for about 75,000 won, which is the pre bargaining price. |

OP, tell us where you live-- if you're out in the country or in certain areas, the water is better in quality. I live out near Cheongju and have drunk Brita water for a few years and I'm fine. I wouldn't do this in Busan.
When you feel better, eat something that you know won't make you sick and try a little of the Brita water as a test. I was very sick from bad meat last week and it can happen.

| I've been using a Brita filter for about 8 months now, and it's been fine. I've never boiled the water first. All of my many sicknesses have come directly from the little germ factories we like to call students. The only problem I've found with my Brita is that Costco doesn't carry the filters anymore, but I'm sure E-Mart will have them. |

The Kenwood filters that Costco carries are compatible with Brita water filters. |

| All the machine requires is a 60.000 won deposit and they give you one to use. Of course you buy the water jugs from them as well. They run 5.000 won each, 4.500 for businesses. |
