Alright, my contract began on September 1, 2005. Which, and correct me if I'm wrong, my Visa should've been sponsored up to August 31, 2006. Well, I just found out I'm only sponsored up to August 14th and I have to renew my ARC because I had to renew my passport last month. Anyway, I didn't renew my ARC until I was sure that the school didn't do this on purpose to come to the last month and claim I didn't complete 12 months and therefore will not be entitled to the severence pay, pension etc. I feel like it's the only leverage I have so that if they say I won't get the severence I'll just say I won't stay past ARC expiration which is 4 months earlier then anticipated.
Now, before I talk to them and renew the ARC I want to know
a) can I stay for 2 weeks past my ARC and Visa expiring?
b) if I have to leave before August ends can they really say I'm not getting my severence and/or flight home?
I think I have the upper hand (if we ever do) at the moment only because they're already short one foreign teacher and 2 more are leaving soon. I just want to know exactly what I'm getting into when I talk to them. |

a) No. You must apply for an extension of your ARC expiry date (sometime in the month before it expires).
b) Yes. |

(a)You MUST leave on the date the ARC card expires. No ifs ands or buts about it. For every day you overstay it is a 100,000 won fine.
(b) Yes they can. |

The guys are right BUT
when you go to immigration about your passport- show them your old contract ( the one that ends August 31) , and ask for a visa extension on your ARC. They should give it to you no problem.
I was in a similar situation last month- my ARC expired the day before my contract. |

I had the same problem.
The date they put on your ARC is the date you enter the country. They give you a one year visa from that date not the date on your contract.
All you have to do, as Peppermint said, is take your contract, ARC and some other bits along to immigration and they should give you an extension no problem.
If I remember what the other bits are I will let you know.
