Chernobyl Issues Live on After 20 Years
AP - Tue Apr 25, 2:29 PM ET
KIEV, Ukraine - Ukrainians tried to make sense Tuesday of the Chernobyl nuclear plant explosion through scientific conferences, humanitarian missions and in quiet recollection of an event that still scars this ex-Soviet republic 20 years later. The April 26, 1986, explosion and fire, to be commemorated in the capital with pealing bells and a minute's silence, became the world's worst nuclear accident as it spewed radioactive fallout for 10 days over 77,220 square miles of the then-Soviet Union and Europe.

And just when you thought it was safe to go back ... it is! At least according to one motorcycling enthusiast.

We discussed the motorcycle girl --- she is a complete fraud. I was taken in too, for about a year until someone informed me here.......still a good story but totally untrue.

Here is a great documentary/photo essay about Chernobyl. I lived in Kyiv for a year and remember well how I took my little radiation indicator to the local market when buying food. Lots of stories I could tell, related by others. Horrific. But this essay is really good.
