I just heard from a recruiter this week that immigration has been rejecting everybody with sealed transcripts. Immigration is now requiring sealed transcripts with an embossed seal of the university as part of the seal. On top of this seal a signature of the same person who signs the transcript must be placed.

I also heard from a foreigner who planned to get another job here, and his sealed transcripts were considered useless because of this new law.

People are being rejected. This is a new thing as of this past week.

Can anybody verify this to be untrue?

I also heard that letters of release are no longer valid - your current employer must come with you into immigration to release you.

First of all, this is bunk. I'm sure that, if there is any truth to it, it was the word of one immigration officer who was being opinionated.

I have been on Dave's long enough to learn to ignore blanket statements made by someone who never posts, but suddenly "appears" out of thin air to tell us all that there is some sort of impending doom. We've seen it before. I am mainly speaking to the release letter comment. The transcript thing would be less surprising.

In any case, my uni does this. No worries here.

Here is some additional information when I once asked if they sealed them:

"We can mail transcripts to you or to any address that you provide. All transcripts that are picked up in our office OR sent directly to you are marked "Issued to Student". All transcripts that are issued to student are put in separate sealed envelopes with the Registrar's signature across the back flap of the envelope. (If you order 10 transcripts you will receive 10 separate envelopes.) The separate envelopes will be placed inside a larger manila envelope. If you have additional questions, you may contact our office by e-mail at .....

Many institutions will not accept transcripts marked "Issued to Student" and require official transcripts to be mailed directly by the Office of the Registrar. "

I'd also consider the particular immigration officer at a particular office on a particular day in a certain mood, depending on the boss (or you) talks to him or her, how you look (in the photo), what the officer had for breakfast, if he knows your boss or school or you, if he had a fight with his wife, if ...........

you get the idea

That's also why you can sometimes get 3 different answers to the same question from 3 different immigration offices.

They're not always swimming in the same direction.

My friend is having some problems with transcripts and immigration:

Quote:
So Korean immigration just rejected my second transcript because they can't understand the logic of "its unsealed because it came directly from the university, not student issued" and that makes it 3 times this month that I've had to re-send it (these people have my original Bachelor's degree in their hands and still feel unconvinced that it's thoroughly, undoubtedly, real:D). In other words, leaving has been slightly delayed and this is TYPICAL AS HELL.

She's not always clear in her writing. But she's dead sexy. Anyway, maybe there's some big push on to make sure they're seal 'n' crap and different immi officers have different definitions of sealed. Further crap we have to go through because the scammers and incompetent yahoos have ruined it for us. Further evidence when unqualified yahoos post on Dave's how they want to teach ESL that we should dissuade them with flames...

*gasp!!!!* Shocked

After a long period of absence I've stumbled back into daves..... to read THAT!!!!

Bite off your tongue man..... Admittably my current location may possibly be affecting judgement (I'm currently back in rural western queensland where a pair of boots and a week-since washed flannel shirt is considered dressing up..... where woman have hairier backs then the man and even bigger *beep*) but i reckon she looks pretty damn fine to me.....
I'd be happy to pay for the postage stamps to have her shipped over.....

What I find ironic is that this strictness could (and no doubt already has on some occasions) end up burning legitimate people.

I believe most people over here teaching got a degree. Some may have a hard time sastifying the authorities now because of a certain lacking signature or whatever.

And whoever doesn't want to play by the rules of foolish beauracracy, I say, cool, advance and get away clean.

Just yesterday, Tuesday, April 18, I went to Korean consulate in downtown Vancouver, with my original degree-diploma from Simon Fraser University, sealed transcripts, five colour photocopies of my degree-diploma and got them stamped for $13 Cdn petrodollars. No muss, no fuss, all done in ten minutes.
