So, if I can pick up WiFi from my apartment, but it's not mine, is using it illegal? Or wrong? Or likely to make my neighbours kill me? I mean I don't know if it's from an internet cafe or whatnot, right? |

It's what I'm doing right now. If the owner of the router didn't enable protection, he might as well be saying "free internetz lulz" |

Just remember, don't log onto internet banking or anything like that because they have an open door to your information.
If it's called 'iptime' then it's meant to be free. |

Really, thought that was a brand of router. |

I'm on "iptime" right now. What is this wonderful public service? |

It is. just most iptime routers/owners never encrypt for some reason. |

Yeah, I was going to avoid banking. I'm debating my e-mail since it's connected to a lot of fairly important goings on in my life.
Am I breaking any laws, though? |

Most of my school routers and apartments owned by my school name their access points IPTIME and they are completely unencrypted.
Sometimes if my line is acting up and I can't connect, I'll connect to a neighbour's router. I wouldn't mind if they connected to mine.
I think the morality issue becomes apparent with long term access, not just being a "guest" on your neighbour's router once in a while. After all, wireless routers are really designed for people to have guests over with laptops who can connect easily.
I think the same could be said with the legality. The customer pays for a contract that only allows his household to use the internet, he didn't buy broadcasting rights for the whole neighbourhood. However, the legality issue is under his hands, not yours. |
