I know many have dealt with and many more are likely dealing with this now, but I'm not looking for just horror stories, only solutions.
My housing is not provided by my school and before knocking, or rather having the wife call the landlord, I'm looking for some actual tips on how one would remedy the situation. I live on the first floor of a house, ju-taek, and I'm noticing mold in the corners of rooms near the floor. I'm assuming this is coming from the condensation of the concrete walls combined with the wallpaper acting as a food source. Add an optimal room temperature and bingo.....mold.
I know cleaning the area is my first priority, but I'm quite certain it will return. Therefore, my question to those who have had to deal with this, possible home-owners, is what to do next. Removing the wallpaper and thoroughly cleaning the area is not a permanent solution. The walls will sweat again and water will condense.
Has anyone ever had to deal with this resulting in permanent solutions? I'm looking to educate myself a little more before getting the landlord involved. |

i never had a mold problem in korea, but have seen countless threads on this topic. what causes this nasty problem? is it mostly with older buildings or basement apartments? what are the consequences for the habituae? headaches, allergies? or is it a simply an unsightly garden growing in the corners of the room? |

After using the bleach, buy a bunch of those pink or blue topped dehumidifiers (usually have a pictue of a hippo). I lived in a small place (maybe 12 pyung?) and I used 9 of them! Replace them when they're about 1/2 to 3/4 full.
About the wallpaper mess...I had the same problem in my place. It only cost me 100,000 to get new wallpaper for my bedroom. Worth it to me! |
