Ah, so it seems I am heading back to Korea again - this time off to Seoul.
Anyways, though I have been hovering around Dave's for many a year reading, I don't tend to post much ~ the reason for the occasion ~ the new and exciting job I have agreed to take. Blessed be, it's not teaching, though I did enjoy my last stint with the younglings.
Here's the info I have so far:

Location: Shinchon, Seoul
School Name: ESPT / Yonsei University Foreign Language Center
The Job: Evaluations and Test Development
Hours: Mon-Fri 9-6 with two-half hour breaks and a one hour lunch break.
Pay: 2.3 m KRW + 300,000 won relocation bonus
Usual fixings - airfare, medical, severance, single apt, VISA Run
Opening: ASAP
Other foreigners: No
Contract Concerns: None (I have already gone through it with a fine tooth comb - unfortunately we all know what a contract is really worth ~.~).

Question So this all leads up to my biggest concern and reason for posting - the lack of foreigners/references for this place - If anyone has any info about this school or position, it would be most welcome as my departure date is only a few short days away. (May 4th)

NB: To clarify, they need someone ASAP so I am flying in on a tourist VISA and will be doing the VISA run to Japan. I have done this before, so hopefully it's as painless this time around.

Good luck to you. Don't know why anyone would take a 9-6 job for 2.3, but to each their own! Welcome back.

I wish you the best of luck.

Some things to consider as you jump into the deep end:

1) I saw this job advertised on another site and the ad included a statement that said "1 week vacation in the summer"

2) I think the ESPT is a speaking test, given via the internet, with student responses recorded on a server for later evaluation. As the only native speaker, you will probably be tasked with listening to, and evaluating, the recorded responses of test takers from universities around Korea.

This sounds all fine and good until you stop and think of the number of students taking the test multiplied by the length of the test and how long it takes you to construct the evaluation.

I can't help but think you are going to be stuck at a desk all day, with headphones practically glued to your head, listening to student responses. Of course, student responses will probably range from "Excellent" to "Incomprehensible" and everything in between. Not exactly my cup of tea, but to each their own.

Good luck.

So there are no foreigners in your department...big deal. There are plenty of foreign teachers in the area at Yonsei and at schools all around the Sinchon area. Find your way to Nori or Rolling Stone in the back alleys and you'll run into more expats than you'll probably care to meet.

You are also a 10 minute walk from Krispy Kreme and Subway.

Sorry I don't know anything about your question either.
I want to know if they need another teacher. I sounds like a pretty good job.
Cheers Very Happy Laughing
