What is the likely hood of securing a teaching position in an area where other positions are abundant, in the same area at least?
I plan on arriving a month before my sig. other, and the ideal would be for her to nail a job in the direct vicinity, if not at the same school. I have heard the assertion that there is a "Hagwon on every corner." I know not to take this literally of course, but what about Busan? Is this do-able?
Gosh, I bet some of these questions on here from the newbies seem soooo redundant. I hope this isn't one of them. I apologize in advance. |

No problem... and truely, literally, there IS a hakwan on almost every corner. That was not necessarily a figurative statement.
If your S/O is white and qualified (breathing and can get an E2) then she will easily be able to acquire a position probably within walking distance of your school.
If she is non-white, and qualified then she may need to look around for a week or so before she gets hired with an acceptable contract.
Do the math... 15,000 positions begging for staff and 10,000 qualified applicants. |

ttompatz,
Thanks for the input. I was wondering how long it would take to find a job. Other posts I have read say you can find a job in a short amount of time. I didn't realize that you can find a job that quickly though! We thought we would have to do a visa run to Japan to get another thirty day tourist visa. I appreciate your help! |

Actually, if you are here with an E2, and you are married to your S/O, then she can get an F3 (dependant family) and not have to worry about the 30 days visa waiver stamp. Her F3 is good for 1 year and is renewable or she can change it to an E2 when she finds a position. If you are NOT married then you have to deal with the 30 day stamp or get her a C??-90day tourist visa before she comes here.
If she gets a crappy job and wants to quit, then she simply changes back to her F3 (change of status) intstead of leaving the country and dealing with all the crap. |

Judging from recent experiences posted here, immigration seems to be moving the "must be able to breathe" requirement to the back burner; the undead can be hired but only so long as their transcripts are in order. |

I might be in the same boat. Tell me more about the visa thing....I mean, if I leave for Korea before my wife and kids, what visa will she be eligible for assuming that she will teach also? Is there a visa that would prevent her from "teaching" local kids alongside ours if we decide to "home school?" She has a degree in English education, so if she decides to find something in the same area it should not be a problem I assume. Has anyone ever heard of bringing their own children to a hagwon to teach, or is the "home school" the way to go? Yes, private lessons in conjunction with home-schooling our children.... |
