Curious to know how many of you have ovens in your apartment as opposed to stove tops only? |

I have one. I am one half of a couple and our hagwon put us in an apartment as opposed to a villa. Villas generally don't have ovens but apartments generally do. It will probably mention it in your contract. |

Most apartments or villas don't provide an oven. I've lived in both. A small toaster oven bakes most things as well as a regular oven. I've made lasagna, broccoli casseroles, chocolate chip cookies, etc in mine. |

Ovens are not standard in Korean apartments. Korean food does not require ovens. You can buy a regular, Western-style stove (four burners/oven) for under W300,000. The oven is a bit smaller than the standard Western oven...a baking sheet will just fit side-to-side. It's big enough for a 20 lb. turkey, and that's a key measurement. |

No. I wish. It's impossible to keep the pounds down when you don't have an oven due to frying too much. I'd like to have a big ass oven. Not one of those dinky ones. |

Not sure how anyone really needs an oven... You can cook just about anything using a regular burner. In fact, I've only ever cooked using a rice cooker. You can toss just about anything in the rice cooker. Anything you crave that MIGHT need an oven, can usually be bought inexpensively ready-made from a restaurant. And as for those choco-chip cookies, Princess, personally I think it's cheaper and a lot less hassle to buy a box of them from the local store!!!
Go green, ditch the oven!!! |

My apartment doesn't have a regular oven, but it's got a microwave and rice-cooker to go along with the standard two-burner gas stove. (I mainly use the microwave to bake potatoes and tofu/dubu - and an occasional baked apple...) |

You're implying that store-bought cookies are anything like a decent subsitute for home-made?
I don't have an oven, but my boyfriend does and it's wonderful to be able to have freshly made pizzas (CORN-FREE, you hear that, Korean pizza industry??) and cake and cookies. I don't have my own oven because sadly I don't, and never will, cook enough to make it worth the investment. |

That would be an interesting looking pizza. A rice cooker pizza. Hmm. A rice cooker is good for some things, but it doesn't cook the way an over does.
Why go green? It's not healthy to just eat vegetables all the time. |

Apartments do not have ovens most of the time. I am in a new office-tel, and none of them have ovens. I bought a nice table top oven 2 years ago for 60,000 won, and it bakes and broils. I can make a loaf of bread in it. My friend bought a convection (I think that is what is is called) from the LG catalog for 99,000 won.
You are a couple. You will make 2 salaries. You can get an oven. I would bring a George Forman grill here.
Rice cookers are great for stew, chicken, soup........lots of things.
I would not pass up a good job if I did not get an oven. |
