Hey,
I am a newly qualified primary school teacher with a degree in Linguistics and also a TESOL certificate. I have a few months teaching experience (and also experience teaching while at teachers college) and I was just wondering what kind of salary I should be entitled to. I realize most offers are about 2.0 but am I cutting myself short to take on such an offer with my qualifications? Im currently looking into coming over to Korea and teach later in the year and was thinking about starting to look for work.... |

You can ask for more than 2.0
Since you have your teaching permit I suggest you look into the International Schools. They only hire qualified and certified teachers. They pay more and offer better conditions. I have a friend working at an international school in Seoul (he is also a certified teacher like me) and he makes much more than 2.0 with better hours and perks.
Another avenue is Universities.
However, in both of these cases, peek hiring season will be in November-January as the school year starts in March. |

Hey Nikki,
If you work in a public school, many of the schools are on a standard government payscale and with your certification I think you would get higher than 2.0 . You can look up that payscale on the EPIK website. From what I see posted on websites I also think you can do better than 2.0 at a private institute. Have a good look around. Good luck. |

Try the public schools also. You should be earning about 2.3 or 2.4 with a little overtime and still be working less hours than many private schools. Conditions are usually better. Probably most teachers would agree this is a good gig.
International schools are hiring now in many countries, it would be worth your while to get onto websites such as the Times Education Supplement. Forget the actual website but you can google that. It usually lists the various International schools that are hiring now.
Beware of any Korean private language schools offering you very high salaries. I am not saying they are all bad, but just be more cautious with these.
If you go the private language school way, don't accept 2.0mil. You deserve more from qualifications alone. |

Minimal of 2.3. Don't settle for less than that! |
