Thats me. I heard it is almost non-existent in Asia.
And maybe 1-4% of Western population.
So, a doctor-type person told me Im in big-trouble should I have a car crash in Korea.
Anyone expert on blood type?
Any other RH-'s out there?

I would then suggest that you donate blood regularly to your favorite general hospital that you go to most regularly. I'm O+.
I think you're right according to this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O_negative#Rh_factor_frequency.
I think that some hospitals allow you to save up on your own blood for autoinfusions. |

I'm O-.
I was given to understand that we are hot items at blood donating time because anyone can take our blood. |

Well, if blood banks were bars, yous blood would be the Louis XIV of blood, at least in Asia. It's too valuable to just pass around on the house.
Only fellow Patricians like yous can partake of yourn. (Imagine having your blood be a commodity! I'd go dizzy until I had sold it all and had just enough for a stiffy once in a while ). |

I'm O- as well.
We're the "universal donor", but we can only take in O- blood. Shitty deal. |

That's pretty much of a rip-off then. I didn't know that. I figured if everyone could use mine, then I could use theirs. If they are going to be that way about it, screw 'em.
The O- thing has come up before. There are several of us around. Someone suggested we make a club. Everyone just laughed it off. Maybe we should reconsider that--just in case anyone is into extreme sports...or walking in front of buses.
And Mr. Xerxes...any idea how much this fine, high quality Louis XIV blood of mine would go for?
If we're cooler than A's, B's and AB's, do we have a leg up on O+'s? |

The leg up we have on O+'s is that O+ is one of the most common types... about 37ish% of the population is O+, whereas 6-7% is O-.
If you want to consider that a leg up. It freaking sucks for us if we're ever in an accident.

Just to let you know, any type of blood can be Rh-, Rh- does not always refer to O-.
Everyone either has or doesn't have the Rh factor (Rh(D) antigen) on the surface of their red blood cells. So, when blood is typed, positive and negative refer to Rh status, not ABO status.

Hmmm...So the + and - refer to whether Rh is present or absent? Is that right?
Anyway, I've had surgery twice here and no one ever said anything to me about being O- being a problem. I wonder what they had ready to fill up my tank with. Soju? |

Ya-ta boy,
Yes, the + and - refer to whether Rh is present or absent. Also, AB+ are pretty much the opposite of O- in that they can take anyone's blood, but can only donate to AB. I guess they are the lucky ones...but they are quite rare. |
