Anyone shopped there?
Is it worth getting the ($50 dollar?) costco card?

Ill be living in the Bangbae dong, and on the website it says its in Sangbong. Is that close to Bangbae?

And if you think Costco isnt worth it, any other suggestions?

thanks Wink

Are you sure it's 50$? Last year it was only about 30$, well 30,000 won.

Anyway, I believe there's one near Yangjae Sta., which would be closer to Bangbae. The one is Sangbong would be a little far, though I make the hike.

Whether it's worth it for you depends on what you buy. I'll renew mine. There's enough that I buy there to make it worthwhile-cheese, beans, frozen fruit when they have it, cereal. There's also a lot I don't buy just because it's in bulk.

Costco is definately worth the price.

It always has a good selection of cheese, some nice sausage, cereals without sugar, ham and a whole host of baked goods. If you like to pamper yourself once in a while its definately worth the bucks!

If you already have a card from North America, they will accept that. Because the card system here can't check the validity of the North American card, they need to get it approved at checkout by a supervisor but that's always been a rubber stamp. I've been using the same card that i got years ago in Canada and while it is renewed every year there, they have no way of checking it here. So I suppose if you had a touch of larceny in you and an expired North American card, you could use it and never have to buy a card here. Their card system in North America only gives you the card when you first join and then the computer tracks it after that for renewal. I think here the cards have expiry dates on them though I may be wrong about that.

I paid W35,000 for my Costco card. Very worth it - if for nothing else but the excellent coffee - at a fraction of E-Mart prices.

It's a great place for Western groceries obviously. If you're like me and can't cook Korean food, a Costco membership is a must.

They've got frozen lasagna from Australia in the frozen foods section now for 5,900 won. I'm pretty happy about that. Smile

i think i save the 30,000 fee every time i go shopping there, assuming i had bought the same food elsewhere with higher prices... if you dont want to buy in bulk, go with a friend and split stuff. a lot of it doesnt need to be refrigerated and you can just save, if you have the space.

go seattle! woohoo

I have a Costco card. I use it once a month in the winter to buy 1 item that I usually can't live without - Quaker Oats Variety Packs. I purchased 2 boxes for the whole winter plus the odd loaf of bread.

On a budget, buying food bulk at Costco doesn't make sense to me. Most of there stuff is unhealthy carbs. Meat and fish are in good selection there as well as their veggies and fruit which I usually buy at Home Plus.

I make it a point to live around a Home Plus when I live in Korea. I actually find them better than E-mart as well.

Have you tried it? I just tried it for the first time a couple of days ago and it's pretty blah.

I'm still sad Costco stopped selling lamb "because the Korean customers don't like it".

Costco has a great deal on meats and vegetables.

It's also a great place for classroom supplies. I got a huge block of contstruction paper for under 10k, plus they have these huge crayola packs at reasonable prices.

Seconded. The prices for it at Hanam supermarket, have made lamb a very, very, special treat.
