I am wondering if there are specific places that lots of Westerners hang out (in Seoul) and if there are get-togethers often for the foreigners in Korea. Are there specific bars to go to for meeting other foreingers? Are you usually friends with other foreign teachers, foriegners in Seoul such as expats and military men, or Koreans? |

There's a get-together this Saturday. If you want to meet some people, you should come.

Or you can go to the bars in Itaewon. Tons of foreigners there. There might even be some sober and sane ones if you go earlier in the day.
There are also things like theater troupes (BH Productions, to name one) and clubs and whatnot. A lot of these are advertised in the free magazines that are published and placed in several spots that foreigners frequent. K-Scene is the one littered with clubs of all sorts. That might suit you more if you're not into the bar scene. |

Go to the Dave's get together. Seriously. I met just about all my really good friends in Korea off of Daves. I even know of a couple that met on Daves that ended up getting married
Other than that for me there's beenL
Bars, Adventure korea tours, hashing, Korean classes, parties put on by expat associations, travelling around and striking up conversations then getting contact details.
Try the K'scene mag, they are avilable all over itaewon. Look in the community section and find something that you'd be interested in and go along. |

Itaewon, Hongdae (or Hongik Uni, as it's also called), Sinchon in particular but also Insadong and Myeongdong.

Yes, I suppose so.

Foreign teachers and Koreans whose English is quite good I'm sure is the general state of affairs. Some military guys are really cool - like ones who work in IT or something like that, or guys who are quite senior. But I doubt you'll be terribly impressed with the rest. |

Itaewon: The Loft, Helios, Bricxx, Gecko's, Rocky Mountain
In fact, almost every bar in Itaewon. It's full of the type of people who play darts, value their homemade beers, and pick up better women than they ever could back home.
I'm not too knowledgeable on Hongdae or Sinchon but plenty of venues exist which foreigners frequent. I'm sure all the bars listed in the "Dave's Gathering" thread meet that criteria so they'd be worth checking out. I passed through what I think was the Rolling Stone magazine bar in Sinchon once, and there's another bar which you take a staircase down to which has a huge selection of records you can request from the DJ and plenty of foreigners to boot. |
