I've been excited and maybe asking to many questions. My recruiter got my contract and other paperwork but now seems to be ignoring my emails.

The Friday work day is done in Korea so now I have to wait until Sunday night Kansas City time.

Should I be worried? How long does it take to get the letter of acceptance for EPIK?

The consulate in Chicago thought that EPIK did not use the numbers but instead only used acceptance letters.

Thanks. -Jeff

This week has been Chuseok and Independence day holidays. So Tuesday and Thursday/Friday were civil servant days off...Don't worry about it if you were out of contact with them for the whole week as many public programs (such as the university I work at) took the whole week off.

Cheers

This week is a holiday in Korea. Relax and wait it out, there's not much more you can do. When does your contract start?

If my past experience is anything to go by, employers and recruiters are *always* overly-optimistic how soon they can get things done. If they say it will take one week, assume two weeks. If they say your starting date is October 15th, assume November 1st.

You should receive a CoE (Certificate of Employment) instead of a visa number. You will present this with some other stuff to the consulate.

Doggie, search for recent posts by me and you'll see that I've been boggled down with lots of questions myself. But at some point we all are, so please don't worry about that. This is going to be my first time working overseas. I've radically changed my life to do this. And never mind the barrage of details ... contracts, negotiations, finding the right school, visa stuff, and numerous other details. I tend to feel apologetic for my questions, but the responses I've been getting have been a huge help.

Yeah, I signed and sent my contract, and I'm waiting, too. Oddly enough, I'm from the Chicago area as well.

I take it this means you decided not to sign with EPIK?

Cheers, Good luck here.

The contract says I'm working for the Gangwon-do school district. Maybe it isn't EPIK. The contract also says, "CONTRACT FOR 2006 ENGLISH PROGRAM IN KOREA."

Either it isn't really EPIK or EPIK now uses numbers or it varies depending on whether someone leaves their fan on.

When I got the number it was earlier then I expected. My passport was at my mother's house 4.5 hours away. I had my truck loaded with with my bedframe strapped to the lumber rack. I got to moms, hooked up the laptop, printed the form and then drove the loaded truck to the tool rental shop to ship it.

The guy didn't know how to do a return label and the woman at the Chicago consulate repeated three times that it had to be prepaid and not my credit card on the shipping label.

I couldn't find my photo. When I finally found it I realized I had grabbed the passport cover instead of the passport. We decided to try again the next day.

The next day I called the consulate to ask questions about the visa app form. She wanted the schools contact information on the form even though I had my visa acceptance number. School address in 23. Address in Korea and School address and contact person in 31. Guarantor. She said it is ok to use the school address in 23 until I get an apartment.

Of course with the time difference my recruiter didn't get my email until after the FedEx deadline. That added another day. The tool rental shop guy had learned how to do the return label and I sent it all off. The address is for the school district. I hope it works.

Consulate woman asked for the a copy of page 1 and page 2 of my passport. I assumed she meant the inside cover (page 0?) which has my picture and information and page 1 which has the signature. The page marked 2 in a US passport has nothing unique about me.

FedEx says they got it. -Jeff

Congratulations!

How long did it take to get your visa pin from Korea? My school submitted my paperwork to immigration two days ago. I was told it could take two weeks, but someone else said be ready to go within a week, because sometimes it comes in faster than that.

Thanks.

Chicago got it on a Friday via FedEx and they sent it to me on Monday with my return label. I got it Tuesday.

But how long did it take from the day your school applied for your visa to the day you received the pin? It's been almost two weeks (including weekends) for me and the pin hasn't come through yet.
