so what ended up happening? That looks like police taking you away at the end...? Its unfortunate that when confronted with something out of the ordinary, ajusshis tend to fight against it... BTW: I met you a few months ago near Yonshinne station (2nd korean world cup night if i remember rightly) but unforunately didnt make it to your performance, regretting that decision now! Love your work... |

cool ...I confronted an unsuspecting crowd of conservative old men at a park...luckily my girlfriend (who is Korean) spoke to police to tell thenm we were just capturing a film of a performance.. the old men demanded I be taken away by the police.. so when we walked away the police told the old men that I would be questioned at the station.. but it did not happen... |

I saw them filiming that in Itaewon several months ago.
Wondered when I'd see something about it.
So now I know who you are, guru. |

Don't these guys have anything better to do with their time? Is this what classifies these days as 'performance art'?
What a pile of rubbish. |

Ha! you found me!
It's freaky shirtless Homer Simpson with a goatee. (Homer, is that you? Are you a shock performance artist? Is that your non-teaching job you keep talking about?)
Hey Watermelon Man. I assume you or someone you know reads Dave's. I guess I have to admire your courage, but real courage is to bring your half-naked shock-tactic street-antics to... just about every neighbhourhood I've ever lived in the West. I fear we'd be counting how many teeth you had left at the end of each performance. And the only police involved would be those you run to for protection.
Yes, I'm sure the conservative Korean ajosshi mindset can be a real downer. But let's face it, Korea's the tamest audience you'll ever find. However, it must be said Itaewon after dark is nothing, you're a pebble on the beach in that walking lunatic asylum. So why not demonstrate real dedication to your art, why not come out to this year's big August 15th Anti-Yankee National Pride Day (formerly "Liberation Day") in Jongno and strut your whacky, whacky stuff for the crowds. |

Well if I was a Korean in the area while this video was being taken, I'd definitely be a little angry with Watermelon man. It's understandable, he was making a helluva lot of noise and people don't go to the park to be howled at by a lunatic. They may have thought he was on drugs and in this country that is definitely a police matter, no? |

Well at least I know what a watermelon sounds like now. All the watermelons I've ever encountered in my life have been mute, even when cut up and devoured. |

Herbie Hancock "Watermelon Man," very cool standard with a trumpet melody.
Don't know if that is the origin of the phrase, or whether Hancock wrote the tune. But that is what "Watermelon Man" means to me. |

That Korean who tried to hit him in the head with the melon should have done a much better job. What a nut. Performance art my ass. I can't believe some people had rated this 5 stars. |

It looks exactly like Flotsam!!!! OMG!! Right down to the green and black paint Flotsam wears everyday.
(hehehe )
I don't think Watermelon Man is very good. He didn't speak to me. More like a prank than performance art. |

his name is frank. i met him once, he seemed like a nice guy. incredibly soft spoken and sweet. he was walking around a bar i was in, doing another performance, with chains being pulled, not watermelons on his head. |
