Early word is that it's terrible, but I never underestimate Michael Mann. Hopefully it'll be decent, though I'm far from looking forward to yet another film version of a TV series.

I'm with Tiberious on this one, although with the same director as the TV series, it has at least a chance to have the same sensibility that made the series popular for a time.

I'm not too optimistic, either, even though I love Mann's work.

After Mann made Tom Cruise look talented in "Collateral" I'll never doubt him sight-unseen again, but Farrell's moustache/hair combo in that trailer looks fucking ridiculous.

Just when you thought the art of remaking cheesey 70s and 80s shows couldn't stink any worse, along comes this.

Also this:

Ice Cube will topline the adaptation of the 70s television show Welcome Back Kotter. The ABC series which ran from 1975-79 centered on a teacher who goes back to teach at his own inner city high school. The troubled kids gang was led by Vinnie Barbarino portrayed by a young John Travolta. Ice Cube takes the role of the teacher at the high school in South Central LA vs. the shows Brooklyn setting. The comedy is written and directed by Tom Brady.
