My PC is getting on a bit. P4 2.4, 1gig RAM, 6600GT VGA.
I've been playing F.E.A.R. recently which pushes my system to it's limit even on medium settings. Great game though!
I was wondering if there is a quick way to turn off all the meaningless background programs, anti-virus, firewall, printer stuff, etc.... so that every bit of the CPU and RAM is devoted to just one program of my choosing.
I realize I could close them all down manually but that would be a time-consuming hassle.
Just a shot in the dark. |

google "end it all" and run that. Of course you're not going to want to be connected to the internet without a firewall or anti-virus program running. |

That looks just the ticket. Cheers. |

you may already know this, but just in case, go to your start menu, click run, type msconfig, go to the startup tab, and uncheck everything you don't absolutely need |

I've scuppered myself doing this and closed stuff I had no idea I really needed. It messed my brain up trying to figure out what I had to turn back on. There's a lot of stuff in there and not all the explanations are in English
I suggest following this advice with a caveat: uncheck everything you are sure you don't absolutely need. |
