Just had a very satisfying Sunday morning, watching my Habs beat up on Carolina on streamtv.com, cup of coffee in hand. The best part was that the stream was of CBC's broadcast and I got to watch Coach's Corner (Don Cherry isn't for everyone, but for you kids out there, I love the guy!), as well as highlights from the other games during play stoppages.
Ottawa came together in the third period of their first playoff game, and Calgary won in 2ble OT. The only sad part was learning that the lovable/pesky Oilers lost in 2ble OT to Detroit. This, admittedly, coming from a fan of all Canadian teams in the playoffs.
Also noteworthy was the huge hit from the Buf-Phi game (The Flyers did receive a scare when rookie R.J. Umberger was knocked woozy and had to be helped off the ice in 12 minutes into the first overtime. He was hurt when he was levelled by Buffalo defenceman Brian Campbell at the Flyers' blue-line. -- from tsn.ca), as well as the injury to Jagr.
I'm loving it! Best time of the year for a hockey fan!!!

| Just one minor mistake. The Flames game ended in 1st OT. |

Right you are!
And how about the big game two win by those pesky Oilers?
I think there will be a few nice upsets in the first round. Should be the most interesting NHL playoffs in years! |

| Sens-Lightning series tied 1-1. Hopefully they can get at least a split in Tampa. |

| Habs in double OT, what a game. Thanks Hanson for the stream tv link. Not the greatest streams but very watchable, especially for 3500 won a month. |

No worries, howie. Glad to see others can enjoy playoff hockey in Korea through streaming. For those who don't already know, streamtvnow.com streams mostly sporting events (especially hockey and basketball these days) and you can subscribe for 3 Euros a month. Cheap as chips!
Sometimes the streams are a bit choppy, but for 3 Euros a month, you can hardly complain!
As for the hockey action, my Habs are looking great!!! They seem to usually have a good first round in the playoffs (bumped off Boston when they were seeded #1 a few years ago...). Huet is playing well, and Kovalev is the best player in the playoffs in the whole leaugue so far.
Oilers won another thriller vs. the Wings, Calgary's up on the Ducks, and Ottawa beat up on the Lightning.
So, to the other NHL fans, what are your predictions? Let's get some life into this thread! (albeit a bit late )
Hanson's picks for the first round:
Ottawa (1) vs. Tampa Bay (8 ) --> Ottawa in 7
Carolina (2) vs. Habs (7) --> Habs in 6
New Jersey (3) vs. NYRangers (6) --> NJ in 4
Buffalo (4) vs. Philly (5) --> Buffalo in 5
Detroit (1) vs. Edmonton (8 ) --> Oilers in 6
Dallas (2) vs. Colorado (7) --> Avs in 5
Calgary (3) vs. Anaheim (6) --> Flames in 6
Nashville (4) vs. San Jose (5) --> Preds in 7
Whaddaya think? |

I think I like your Oilers prediction!
Double OT win today for the 2-1 series lead; it's just too bad all I could get was internet radio. Playoff time has gotta be the only time I really wish I was back in Edmonton... |

Philly's been breaking my heart for years but I can't believe they'll tank in the first round this year, they'll keep the tempers in check until they get a lead at least.
Carolina busted all my picks this year so they'll keep doing it
The Rangers will somehow pull out two
Detroit is just Detroit, can see them falling in the first round
Colorado is a no brainer
I can never take the Ducks seriously, I don't care who they have on the team, blame that on Emilio Estevez
Last one is too close to call but that's why they call it gambling.

| If Philly is eliminated in the 1st round again I think that Bobby Clarke should be history. The Flyers need a GM who isn't stuck in the 70's. |

| Disappointing morning for Habs fans. First the stream isn't on, then when it is, they lose in OT on a lame penalty call. Still looking good though, can't wait for game 4. |

You said it, howie!
Oh well, I wasn't expecting a sweep, anyway. However, the penalty calls favoured the Canes, and the high stick against Koivu was an obvious no-brainer, but wasn't called. Then, Komisarek gets the 4-minute minor for a lesser infraction near the end of regulation.
One thing's obvious, the Habs better watch themselves penalty-wise, or this series could turn around in a hurry. Not all the penalties against the Habs, from what I understand, were uncalled for. |

| Think you might be being harsh on Clarke bro, it's only his second season, course my memory is fuzzy because of the whole strike. |

Yeah that was a horrid call in OT..considering the ref let the Canes get away with a tripping call mere seconds before calling one on the Habs in OT!
Thats just hockey however but the Canes were outplayed for most of the game...if not for Ward in goal it would have been over by the second period. |

| No worries, teams never sweep their whole way through the play-offs. They are playing well, and they never lose in the first-round. |

The 70s were cool. In fact I haven't completely enjoyed the playoffs since the 70s.
See Bobby Clarke ripped the Leafs for firing Quinn. Used the 'F' word about 10 times in his interview with the Sun.
He said that Pat Quinn is a much classier guy than he is.
