|

Does anyone have a link to a good sample resume for a teacher in Korea? I know how to write resumes for normal jobs back in Canada, but I'm not sure about the format here and what should be included/ not included (ie marital status).
Also I'm wondering how to write a resume for a potential employer who may or may not have great English skills. I want to show all the things I have done related to EFL, but how much detail is too much and how simple should my wording be?
I'd be especially interested to hear a recruiter's take on this. |

I just started the process of getting a job there last week but have been contacted with 20 - 30 people concerning jobs. Most of them don't appear to have actually read the resume. One guy even asked me what race I was even though my picture was posted with the resume. If you are going for a job at a University or somewhere that desires a Masters degree or alot of experience they would check but for a first timer just looking to work at the average place or public school it prob don't matter what is on the resume as long as you are breathing and can speak English.
Just my recent experience |

1. A nice picture of you nicely dressed and with make up if a girl. Bonus points if it's with a kid.
2. Basic details. Name, date of birth, citizenship, contact details.
3. Basic Education. I graduated from this university. They don't care about high schools.
4. Work experience that is relevant. But keep it simple. Don't bother with part-time student jobs like flipping burgers.
5. When you are avilable to work.
Remember the people looking at these likely speak english as second language. Keep your language very simple and to a minimum.
This thread on the Japan forum (especially the first post) is good see here |

Dear Madam / Sir,
I really want to work and teach in Korea. I have friends who have done it and really recommend it. I have Korean friends in Canada who are great and the type of people I'd love to live around all the time. All I've heard about Korea sounds wonderful.
I really love working with kids and in my experience I get along with them reall well. I speak English very clearly and look really good. I'm a hard worker, I adapt easity to new environments, I like working evenings, I really want to spend at least one year working in a new country, and I think I'll make a good teacher. Once I start something I don't quit.
I have notarised copies of my BA degree and certified, sealed copies of my transcripts along with photocopies of my passport that I'm ready to send as soon as you can send me a contract to sign. I've never worked in Korea before and have all the documents I need ready to go. I can start work as soon as possible. Please contact me by telephone _______________ or email ________________ as soon as possible. Thanks for your time. |
