My husband says that everyone gets a day off to go to vote. So it seems like it's a mandatory holiday.

Hagwon owners might try and make you do extra classes to make up the missed ones, though.

Thank you plato for the answer. I know my public school is closed...but I did not have time at the academy to inquire about that day. Just wanted to run it across here for some possible answers. More than likely the hagwons will be open.

Are you working at an after school programme at a public school. If so, we are doing the same thing and we were told that we won't have to work because our holiday plan follows that of the school (except in the summer and winter when they run special summer/winter programmes).

I think you'll find only govt workers & those with large companies (like banks) are guaranteed the day off. Public schools are also often used as polling places.

So its a discretionary holiday, up to your boss if you work in a hagwon. If you do have to work, you'll likely have small classes that day -- a lot of families treat it as a chance for an outing together.
