I can't wait. I'm trading in the 04 Camry to get one in 2 months. The first five arrived at the dealership this week but none of them have the upgraded option package I need. Have to wait a few months to order one.
Nice!

Having only seen the 1 picture you posted, the styling reminds me of the late 90s Ssangyong Korando
And in other (semi-surprising) auto-related news, the 2006 Sonata is kicking asses and taking names:

| Looks cool, but what's up with those mini rear passenger doors? |

They open out, like a clamshell...i think thats what they call them...clamshell doors.
| Quote: |
| The FJ has clamshell rear doors for easy access without fussing up the exterior with another set of door handles. The back seat is roomy and secure, though side visibility isn't nearly as good in back as in front. |

I know, but they just seemed ridiculously undersized. I was thinking they should have made them comparable to the Honda Element's clamshell's.
However, taking another look at the Element, they're not as different as I had first thought-
I haven't used clamshell doors, but I love the concept, having tried unsuccessfully to jam furniture into backseats over the years:

Yes, it's a very nice land cruiser, I wouldn't kick it out of bed for eating crackers...

Oh my, that is nice...
Funny, I was just talking with a buddy about the automotive "retro craze" in the States - this would also include the VW Beetle and the Mini Cooper, US citizenship notwithstanding... Anyway, we got to talking about old Japanese cars, like the original Honda Civics, the (not-so-Japanese) VW Karmann-Ghias, the old Datsun 240, maybe even the B210 or the old 70's Toyota Tercels & Corollas... I made some offhanded comment about what might happen if (when) the Japanese auto industry starts to "go retro" and refurbish some of those old designs.
And here we are.
(General Motors, is that the fat lady warming up?) |

Well, hobby-ists are the driving impetus, I think:

Big fight with the wife this weekend. She won't let me trade in the 04' CAMRY because she doesn't want a higher payment.
I'm so angry right now. I have to wait two years because she won't give in and let me get it now. Not in the budget she said. I'm spitting nails, I can't even see straight.
AND THEN I get to work today, pull into the parking garage and what do I see? Someone got one. And now I have to look at it every day. (Black cherry color)

The Element is great! I drove my friend's all winter in Miami (well, not really a winter driving test, I'll admit!). I loved driving it- great visibility, good clearance (for those flash floods) and good mileage. The best part for me, really, was all of the leg room.
The Toyota does have a cooler look, though.
By the way, Fly, would your wife so no to a new Korando?
Speaking of retro, I drove a Mini-Cooper while I was there, also. I never was sold on the concept or the look, and their ubiquity right now, but what really put me off was the cramped driver's area and the bad visibility, not to mention the low clearance.
Buyers of the Mini-Cooper, IMHO, are fashion victims. |

| The backward doors are called suicide doors, not clamshells. |

That is one ugly-assed off-roader.
There's only one true, African safari, Richard Attenborough, wildebeest traversing the Serengeti plain vehicle:

When I see a Korando I always think of this;
The Canyonero. |
