okay.. so my villa was bought by a new landlord. the new landlord wants to live in my specific apartment - but can't until my current 2-year housing contract is up.
so anyways.. she decides to make my address as her mailing address.. meaning i get TONS of *garbage* in my mailbox.. making it damn hard to find the 3 bills per month that belong to me.
i found one.. but the other two she caputured somehow.. and then proceeded to pay my bills. sounds fine, right?
not actually.. then her son came around and was asking me why i'm not paying my bills.. and now wants a copy of the one bill and paid receipt that made it through to me.. (why they want that copy is beyond me - to prove i'm paying them?)
anyways.. nutso landlord.. goddamn it.
unfortunately this isn't solved yet.. i also haven't received any recent bills either.. so i'm thinking she's still collecting them and going to make this into more of an issue.
goddamn it.. never thought i'd say it.. but lady.. please let me pay my own bills and stop harrassing me or making things so goddamn complicated here!! i know i'm a foreigner.. but please.
what kills me most is i've been paying them every month for the last 15 months here.. why they are collecting them, paying them, and accusing me of not paying them is fucked up.. g'damn new landlord.
end of rant. |

What a lousy deal. Sounds to me like she's hoping to drive you out before your contract is up.
Can you complain to the post office that you are not receiving your mail? I don't know, but maybe they can do something about someone taking your mail. It's worth a shot.
Anyway, good luck. |

Go to the post office and open a PO box. Or...go to the police station and file a complaint....mail being stolen. Or...better yet...stand up to the owner and tell her to NOT use your address....she does not live their! |

the tough thing is those 3 bills (electric, water, etc.) are all in her name.. so technically its her mail.
it was under the old landlords name.. and of course i'd just pay them when they arrived.
but the new landlady put them in her name.. and while i have been paying them.. she's suddenly flipped on something and started paying in some frantic fear that i might not.
anyways.. the lady is ALWAYS walking around the building.. always doing something.. rebuilding my bathroom this weekend (means i won't have water for 2 days).. constant stuff. ahh well.. will just ride this one out.
i just have this weird suspicion she's going to be taking my bills.. paying them.. and then going up to my employer with i'm not paying them, she is.. or who knows what. whatever it is.. it's weird. |

She'll snag them for a few months, service stoppage notices will then be sent by the utilities, and she'll take those to _____ (your employer, etc.) as proof that you're a deadbeat. If it doesn't lead to formal eviction -- and I doubt it could -- it's probably enough of a hassle to get you to vacate early.
Doesn't sound weird. Sounds almost textbook. |

If you give her cash, make sure she gives you a receipt. |

yeah, i'll bet she's sliming her way into ammunition that can be used to evict you. |

wow i'd love to have my bills paid (since the banks dont have special hours)
and i'd love to have my bathroom done...spend the weekend at the sauna
actually my company said they'd put in a new shower when i moved in. then they changed their mind saying they'll do all of the repairs and renovations to all of the rooms together
personally i think you're lucky...she may be a little annoying, but at least she gets things done |

Explain the situation to your employer now, before that happens ... see if either your employer can speak to her and try to sort things out, and if not, then at least if she ever DOES go to your boss, then you have already told him/her the situation. |

Ask the son for photocopies of the bills each month and pay the landlady next day...also, ask the son for photocopies of the receipts each month to verify that she's been paying what she's supposed to be paying. Keep all photocopies and get receipts and you should be fine. As the son is already sticking his nose in where it doesn't belong, you might as well get him to do a little extra work in his secretarial capacity, yes? |

Talk about pushy, pushing her way in and taking it on (all for the cause of enforcing her desires. Hmm, is she hot?). With her son involved, too. Ever feel like a third wheel when you ought to be riding a unicycle?
If I was you I'd have a meltdown and tell her to ride a lubed, bucking bronco over fields of manure with deep, sucking power upon impact, like quicksand. But that'd be playing right into her hands. |

I would have done what any normal Korean would have done and that is to take my mail out and throw her mail away. It's her fault for using your box in the first place. I guess if she wants to get her mail, then she should use her own address, right. When in Rome..... |

Losing bills can be a beeyatch in this country.
Try calling up any major utility company without your bill/account number and trying to get any information. ID #, phone number, address, passport number...all these things they require before you set up an account are useless once you get their magical account number.
I used to pitch old bills once I paid them. Now I keep them filed for future use...never know when the mail will stop coming.
I'm living in a semi-highrise now. All the bills are combined into one form and set in my mailbox. So convenient. |
