How do you get rid of these things? I have the latest version of Symantec. I also downloaded the Spyware Doctor and Lavasoft spyware detection and removal programs, but nothing. Any suggestions? |

geez dude, maybe it's time to think about another operating system ?
If you have another computer around, I'd install something like http://www.ubuntu.com/ on it and give it that a go ... there's a learning curve involved, but once you get used to it - you won't have any more spyware/adware problems... you could still use your windows system for games and that kinda stuff. |

Right. That, or a Mac, eh? It's just spyware...no need to burn down the forest because of one bad bug.

The spyware isn't making my hard drive crash or anything. It's a little annoying, but should I still try to get rid of it if it's not doing anything serious? Well, I guess behind the scenes it could be doing something serious, just can't see it. |

Guess it depends on what you have, and whether you're worried about it or not. A lot of those things just track you or redirect you, but some are key-loggers. Passwords and credit card info? I don't keep that info sitting anywhere anyway, but be extra careful if you have a nasty or two. Personally, I'd get rid of it. You can follow some of the steps I mentioned or if you don't care about losing anything you have on your computer now and a couple of extra hours this afternoon, do a clean install with a full format of c. The problem with formatting is that it never really teaches you anything other than how to efficiently re-install Windows. Or, leave it. The problem with leaving it is things may get slower as time goes on. |

Second that.
My Lavasoft Adaware stopped working so I tried Spybot. So far, so good. It picked up some stuff and removed them. Not bad for a free program. |

Yea, thanks Denver. These cybertech guys helped me out. This malware scanner http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ is awesome. Nothing else worked (Lavasoft, Spydoctor, etc.) I tried just about every free downloadable spyware killer, but nothing worked until I tried this one. Highly recommend it if you got a bad spyware. |
