I've searched the travel forum about Borocay and have found a lot of useful information; however, nothing specific in regards to flights.

I'm planning on heading there in late July for 5-6 days with my girlfriend and I was just wondering if anybody has any recomendations on how to get there?

I understand that I will have to switch planes in Manilla (how difficult is this) and time of day may be a concern (getting a connecting flight to Caticlan and ferry to Borocay).

So where is the best place to get flights? Is it better to go through a travel agent or through the airlines?

the airlines. fortunately domestic flights in the philippines are SUPER cheap. Something like $40 one-way to get near Boracay.

You can either book online through 'Philippines Air' or 'Air Philippines' (they are different) or 'SEAIR'.. not sure who else - but definetely those three.

You can actually come right off your flight and then book for the next airplane out if you really wanted to. If you are coming from Korea, you'll see Koreans with the same intention.

Catlican is basically right next to Boracay (just take the 20-minute boat ride over).. but flights are fewer and they go via a small airplane. Regular decent-size planes are much more plentiful going to KALIBO. However, Kalibo is about two hours by mini-van to Catlican (which goes over to Boracay). Fortunately mini-vans wait at the airport and take you directly from there to Catlican, so its not too bad of an option either.

When I did it several years ago, we had to transfer from the international to domestic airport in Manila.
Took a taxi, and it was one of the only
times in my worldly travels that I have blatantly been ripped off by
the driver. I told him, "Meter, only meter, OK?" Once we start driving he says meter's broken,
and pulls out a worn piece of paper with prices to different places. Domestic airport- $15. What the F****? Its a fairly short ride.
My bags were in the trunk. Screwed. Twisted Evil

airport taxis are the biggest scam is RP

to avoid them
if you fly via PAL - exit to the LEFT and walk about 150m to the road - catch regular taxis, bus, or jeepneys - tougher to get a bus to the Domestic Airport i think

if u fly to the old airport (non PAL flights) exit IMMEDIATELY to the RIGHT and walk about 50m - buses, taxis, and jeepneys stop at the corner. The jeepneys and buses go by the Domestic airport.

If suddently the meter doesnt work, and they refuse to stop - just open the door Smile

NEVER put your stuff in the trunk. Report abuse to the Department of Tourism!!! - record all the details.

When you get to Boracay, make sure you go to a place on Station 2 called Juice Bar. The have the coolest staff of just about any bar I've ever been to. The location is killer, too.
