A friend of mine who doesn't have an account here is looking for *a reliable* laptop dealer in Seoul. She was burned buying electronics from Technomart and Yongsan when she arrived and now that she's been in Korea for a year she wants to buy a laptop. Does anyone have any good suggestions for her?
Thanks in advance for any info/company names you can provide.
Cheers! |

If she is looking for a new one... try Home Plus .... I got an IBM laptop (low end = P4-1.5gHz, dvd/cd-rw, 512mb ram, wifi, ethernet, modem, etc), new with most of the bells and whistles (USB mouse, case, webcam) for just over 800k. That is about the same price as a mid-range "used one" at Yongsan.... I had my own legit English windows XP so I did the changeover myself... I don't know if they can arrange for an English windows install at time of purchase.
They often have clearances on factory new "older models" for prices that approach North American pricing.
I also had OK service at a couple places in the space 9 when I had 2 desktops with flat screens made up. White boxes with 17" and 19" TFT monitors, 3+gHz cpus, 1 gig ram, 250 gig HDs and DVD burners (not dvd/cd-rws) for under 900k. |

Dell has an office here.
They have that great 3yr onsite warrenty you can buy with the notebook...it is seriously the best on the market. |

I bought a Dell laptop over the internet borrowing a Korean friend's creditcard. Seriously, it's so much easier and it comes with windows installed in english. Dell also lets you customise your own stuff, which is kind of cool. |

The computer solutions shop or whatever it is called in itaewon is a reasonable place. I keep a mail box their, but the owner is a canuck who apparently does a real good job about backing up his products. |
