Depends on what the pin is made out of, these days the pins they insert in people dont set off the metal detectors, I know because I have one, but I'm not sure whether they use the same metal in animals. Call your vet and ask him if it will set the alarm off, he should be able to tell you. |

I think an explanatory letter from your vet just-in-case could be a good idea. Then again it's just her knee--it's not like you could smuggle an AK47 through customs in the dog's leg |

No, but pet lover just might be the latest incarnation of the long-feared "dog bomber". |

Shouldn't beep.
I had a metal plate inserted into my jaw three years back after a break and its still there til this day. Its not set the metal detectors off at the airports once.
Guess it all depends on what the pin is made out of. |

Not trying to hijack thread but...
*makes sound that you make when you try not to laugh, but the noise comes out of your nose*
I can just imagine LAX being in an uproar because some poor passengers dog has a pin in his leg.
The thought almost has me in tears. |

For the insanely curious, she had luxating patellas and had to have a pin inserted in one knee (the other was fine with a groove cut in the bone). |
I can't answer your question, but if you fly to a developing country and you see a young child with polio hobbling down the road on crudely-made crutches, you should probably keep that the fact that your dog has a pin in it's leg under your hat. |

IF you are trying to make me feel guilty for taking responsibility for the health of my dog and ensuring that she gets the best I can give her, you have failed miserably. I cannot save the world and am NOT RESPONSIBLE for the world. I AM, however, responsible for BOTH of my dogs: their health, their happiness, their overall well-being.
Are you suggesting that I hide my glasses for fear of running across someone with poor eyesight who cannot afford glasses.
Get real. |
No, no, I wasn't suggesting that at all. It was more of an etiquette tip. I'm just saying, for example, if you're walking down the street and you see some kid hobbling alongside his mother and he turns to her and says with pleading eyes, "Mommy, when are we going to get those braces for my legs?" and his mother answers "Oh, little Jamafo, you know we can't afford braces for your legs. We are too poor for that," and then little boy says, "But I want to grow up to be a soccer player," and his mother turns her head to cry, and then later you guys somehow get introduced, then in such a situation you should probably keep your dog's legpin story to yourself and steer the conversation towards something lighter, like the weather or local sports teams (except soccer). That's all I'm saying. |
