I'm interested to see the different levels of people's typing and reading skills... please take this test if you are not Korean. Or, if you are Korean, at least tell us when you post the score.

TYPING:
If you can be bothered, take the time to download this typing game called 뽁뽁이 타자, downloadable here:

http://software.myfolder.net/Category/Download.html?sn=14508

Once installed, open it and click on the last option (타자게임)
Play the game without pressing any buttons other than the typing thing. Yes, I know you can make the little man move around with the direction keys and if you press control he fires out stars etc to help you win the game. But that wastes time and it's better to see how far you can get based on just your typing.
I haven't done it for a while and I just tried now and got 4750. I think my highest ever was 5300. Anyway, beat that.

READING:
Navigate to this page:

http://news.media.daum.net/culture/art/200605/14/sportskhan/v12698346.html

Time yourself reading (out loud!) from the title (신세계 당당한 대물림) at the top till the end of the article[〈상하이|문성현기자〉]
I just read it out loud in 4 min 6 sec. Bearing in mind that I was being very careful to pronounce it all correctly, acually say the numbers in Korean (e.g. 23% - 이싶삼퍼센트), and not miss anything out. So don't cheat and tell me you read it out loud in 7.9 seconds.

And I'm going to try again tomorrow when my mind is fresh and post some new scores of blistering speed demonstrating fantastic prowess in the Korean language.

Meanwhile, 해보래요?

Today...

TYPING - 4840

READING - 3 mins 28 sec.

Hmm, must have been tired last night.

Eugene, nice reading speed. I don't know why the typing program doesn't work on your computer. Do you have a mac or something?

Took me 3 minutes 35 seconds on the reading. I think everything pronounced about right, but my I'm sure it sounded like gibberish from my lack of natural rhythm and stress.

I'll try the typing program later.

I got a measely 400 points on the 타자게임.

With only my mobile to time the reading I can't tell you exactly how long it took but it was between 3 and 4 minutes.

I got 29720, but that was using the hearts and stars and everything. On typing alone, I got around 12000.

Took me just about exactly 3 minutes to read out loud. I sound really funny when I read out loud, my stress and intonation is all wrong because I'm not familiar with where Korean put pauses and stress, and I can never really anticipate where a long sentence is going due to the different word order.

I think that's an issue. Just because someone can read it fast doesn't mean they can read it like a Korean would. I get alot of practice reading stuff out loud at my church, and I hear alot too. But I'm still really unnatural in fluency as well Crying or Very sad

One of my ways of practicing Korean is reading articles and stories and trying to type the sentences back from memory. I also use my electronic dictionary a lot, with the same key layout. And I'm pretty much just a fast typer from way back -- 105/110 wpm in English.

Heh, I wasn't going to write on this thread but since you insist...okay, I read the second one in two minutes. I didn't download the other software because I don't want anything new on my computer but I did find something else, and tried it out because it doesn't involve any software:
http://www.kidtaja.co.kr/
문장연습 - 수수께끼
I seem to get around 560 on that.
