I will be prepared to board a plane in about 4 weeks and feel as though I am going to err in fore-seeing and tackling all of the angles.
The general concensus seems to be that arriving and then looking for a teaching position is the best bet, so that is what I sha'll do. I have prodded every resource available and just want to meke sure I am missing nothing.
*purchase a tourist visa? (is this when I should get a re-entry visa?)
*contact multiple recruiters for introduction purposes when I arrive
*have diploma in hand
*have numerous transcripts (sealed, stamped, signed)
*have a suit on hand for interviews
The return home ticket deal is perplexing. Do I need a ticket out of Korea to gain entry? If so, can this ticket be to a neighboring country? Wasting the money on a return ticket home makes no sense to me.
Any advice would be mucho appreciated. Thank you. |

The return ticket question is easy to answer.
By law you are required to have a return ticket if you are coming on a tourist visa or visa waiver. The AIRLINE will check to ensure that you meet the entry requirements. THEY are the ones who get fined and have to return you (at their expense) if you do not meet the entry requirement. They tend to be pretty strict about it but SOMETIMES you can slip through the cracks.
The best bet to ensure that you have a hassel free time at the airport is to have 2 tickets.
-The first is your one way ticket to Korea. Find the best price you can for this.
-The 2nd is your One-Way NON_RESTRICTED and REFUNDABLE ticket to return home within the time frame of your tourist visa (90 days for most countries) or visa waiver (30 day stamp on arrival for Americans).
When you get here... simply cancel your return ticket and apply for your refund. If you bought it by credit card, then it will be credited back in about 2 or 3 days.... if you paid CASH, then it could take up to 1 month, depending on the airline.
Now find your job.
