| Do you think a newbie forum would be a good idea? Why? |

I don't see it as an advance. If I were a newbie, I'd want to talk to an experienced hand directly. A newbie forum strikes me as 'the blind leading the blind'.
I often click on a newbie thread, but some days I'm not in the mood. So I scroll right on past. I don't see why other people can't do the same if they are not interested at the moment.
For the most part, they are asking legitimate questions that deserve legitimate answers. From time to time one of them asks an 'ignorant' question, but not a stupid question. I mean ignorant in the real sense of the word--asked because they are ignorant of certain information that is not readily available.
There is already an incestuous feeling to the board. Let's not aggravate it by encouraging the creation of a ghetto for newbies. |

If they want help they can ask questions in the Job Discussion Forum, and General Discussion Forum. I'm going to protest, and insist
we have a forum for the oldies!

I'm sorry, Mr. AlabamaMan. According to your 'joined' date, I'm going to have to ask you to stay in the Newbie Forum, please.
I can see it working for newbie topics, like "Please look at my schedule," and "What to bring?" But honestly, since most newbies ask the same questions, wouldn't an entire forum dedicated to those topics get repetitive quickly, and then barren? I'd much rather see a new and improved Search option, with bulletins to use it before posting your question.
Now, if you're talking about some Oldie Forum, like "Korean Apologists vs. Those That Should Just Leave," I'm all ready. |

I'm not attacking newbies for the record. I just wanted to keep my response short. My joke about the "oldies" was not an attack on newbies. I'm also thinking about the (Star of David Forum ) |

There's a hell of a lot of snobbery on this forum, from people with the attitude of, "What the hell would you know? You haven't lived here for six (or more) years". It is an intimidating place for people who just want some help (and don't judge me by my joining date please). Not everyone is planning on staying in Korea long term, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
At the same time, a newbie forum seems a bit like an attempt to put everybody in their place. I don't really see what it would achieve. |

i've been a newbie for months now and i like the idea of a newbie forum.however it is blind leading the blind and every other post just asks 'want to do efl, any advice?'how long have you got?
it is better to have a list of resources to do some research of your own back and ten ask specific questions.i've spent 6 months researching the industry and korea.i got most of my advice on the korea board and individuals as well as other sights.
newbie forum.nice idea in theory but efl in each country differs so widely.to broad a forum.makes us newbies feel wanted though! |

There is a sticky that lists people who are willing to help newbies with their questions. I've had quite a few people PM me in the past, and I've been as honest and direct as I could be.
I guess a forum couldn't hurt. If you feel like helping a newbie, hit that forum. If you don't...don't! |

It may be a good idea if there were a few old-timers assigned to answering the questions posted there clearly and correctly. Like 'advisors', in a sense. Like mods, but with limited powers in that forum only.
Sounds like the oft-ignored FAQ though.
Newbies should really get aquainted with that...it's a great resource (if it is well-maintained, that is)
The FAQ needs to be culled and stripped of the chaff. It still takes forever to wade through the garbage and find an unclear answer. |
