It's been two months and still NO JOB. Maybe I'll have to use my money to fly back to Seoul with no job and just look for one. The ads on here are either for blacklist schools and/or places in the boonies. My Dad is especiially worried that I might go to Seoul and run out of money before finding a school, but I don't want to sit on my bum in my boring small hometown all summer long. I was only supposed to be here for 3 weeks but the school changed their minds about hiring me AFTER I already signed a contract. Now, I've been sitting here for 2 months. Next time, if I don't have job lined up before my contract ends, or if some crappy school hires me then decides not to at the last minute, I'll just fly to Japan and go back to Korea on a tourist visa to look for a new school before coming here to see my folks. My hometown sucks!!!

Wow! Perhaps you could share your job seeking strategy with the forum and maybe some kind soul will give you some pointers.

I'm not being funny or facetious, just really surprised that it's been two months.

Yes, do tell.

Have you resorted to using a recruiter?

I got my job from a recruiter after posting my resume on here, and its ideal! Public middle school, nice easy hours, wicked apartment and 20mins from Seoul on the bus. Put your resume on here, and also TEFL.com - I'm sure the offers will come flooding in, especially as you're already here...

I'm not in Korea at the moment. I had a couple of offers back in March. The ad said they were for Seoul and then the guy recruiting for the school offered me a position in Incheon and a position 5 hours away from Seoul in the boonies. I grew up in the boonies and I hate the boonies. The pay was 2.6, good, but the hours were HORRIBLE!!! M, W, F 9AM-7:30PM and T, TH 9AM-8:30PM. I'd die!!!!! I don't trust recruiters after this incident. If I posted my resume on here, I'd be getting phone calls day and night from crap schools and recruiters. I got one offer for Seoul in April, but the director seemed desperate and wanted me over there in a few days. I'd rather have my visa before I go, so I'll already be legal to teach. I have 4 years exp, so maybe many schools are afraid to hire me. They want doormats who will put up with their bull.

Sorry to hear you're not having much luck, but I really believed it was a good market for teachers at the moment, as there appears to be somewhat of a shortage (although thats going on what I read on this site a couple of months ago - maybe things change?) Have you thought about trying Taiwan, or do you specifically want to work in Korea? I met a couple who'd come from Taiwan, and they were cursing coming to Korea as they said they had a far better deal over there. Just a thought.

If you're female, have four years experience and, from the sounds of it, are blonde, then you've got a job. If you fly to Korea and parade your assets about then you'll have to beat middle aged hagwon directors off with a stick. So bring a stick.
