Anyone know where I can get a decent selection of art-house or foreign language dvds, with eng subtitles. Been to Yongsan, but half the stuff doesn't have English subtitles. Would like to get the back catalogue of Wong Kar Wei, for example......I know the selection over here is bloody awful at best, but perhaps there's a certain video shop in Seoul, or a particular area. |

I've never seen Wong Kar-Wai movies in the pirated version -- ie. Yongsan street vendors. I've seen In The Mood For Love in proper music stores, which also sell DVDs. I agree it's not easy to find those, and I would think they'd be available since a large number of young Koreans have heard of him (though they say his name differently), and his new films are always prominently featured in theaters. Oh, and I did buy a legit version of 2046 from one of the many DVD shops around Dongdaemun, but it wasn't cheap -- about 25,000 won. The Seoul Selection store seems to have a lot of Korean movies. |
