Any comments? Is it safe to look for jobs through this recruiter?

Also, what's the best season to apply for teaching positions? I just start thinking of teaching in Korea and have ZERO ideas of how and where to start. I read many posts here and they are very helpful, but still have many worries come up in my mind.

It DEPENDS! Bite the bullet! That's what I did in Vancouver, and I've been successful! Your insecurities merely tell me that you will be a terrible teacher.

OK... last question first...

For a hakwon position, EVERY DAY is the correct season to apply.

For a PUBLIC school position they start in May and June and continue through September... depending on which Office of Education you are looking at. http://gepik.ken.go.kr/ will give you a good idea even though it is a bit out of date.

There is also SMOE and EPIK that you can google and check out. They typically hire in July/Aug for Sept starts and Jan/Feb for March starts.

Work and Play is OK... and they often have a lot of listings for PUBLIC school positions when the POEs are hiring.

Remember what a recruiter is... at home they are called HEADHUNTERS. Their ONLY job is to match a warm and hopefully qualified body to an employer... They work for and are paid by the Employer... NOT YOU.
They will NOT hold your hand, comfort you in your moment of stress or baby sit for you.

You WILL be a stranger in a strange land AND if you are NOT comfortable leaving everything that you hold near and dear (family, friends, food, customs and culture) behind... then this adventure may not be for you.

OK... now I will let some of the more experienced people do their rant now... Newbies like me often type too much....

I had a very good experience with Worknplay. They were on top of things, helpful and were prodding me to do the things I needed to do instead of me having to ask them.

I have noticed that you are very rude to many people on various threads. What's you problem dude? Were you not loved enough as a child?

And here's another gem from the same chest:

You know, when people are this rude, I tend to look a little more closely at their politics.

I can understand what you're against. I can sympathize. But what are you *for*? And how, pray tell, are you going to win over converts among the fence sitters if you hand out insults willy-nilly?

Pacifism usually has something to do with being nice to non-aggressors ... or maybe I'm just a bit dim and the left is just as dog-eat-dog and Darwinian as the right ...

I used work n play to find my current job. Although I'm happy with my position, I'll point out that they only offered me two others during a total of three weeks (in March). So, it was slim pickins.

However, the most important key is the school you sign with, not the recruiter you go through. The recruiters actually do very little. When they find you, their job is essentially finished, aside from some minor details. It's up to you to properly research any institution before making a commitment.

Mr Literal, you've hit the nail on the head ... but not for the reasons you're thinking.

You may have forgotten, but out here in the Western world, people like you and Dr Bacon are regarded as gutter-mouthed freaks. Not scarce, mind you, just ... odd. After all, you are defending an aspect of this board that is causing it to sink beneath the level of Jerry Springer and Big Brother. Yes, it may still be a very Western form of cynicism. However, I have a question for both of you ... do you both use cultural relativism and "tolerance" as excuses for your rudeness? If so, are you aware of the irony and incongruity of having a foot on two separate platforms - the "don't complain about the culture" platform and the "I'm better than you" platform? If there is a logical explanation for this apparent discrepancy, then please enlighten this ignorant, democracy-pampered soul.

I believe that the faults you see in others is the faults you have yourself.

Maybe a little introspection is in order before you 'slam-dunk' others.
