No, they are not closing. That is untrue. I am absolutely sure. |

They have closed.
Good friends working in the Apkujung school leave the country on thursday of this week, finishing their contracts a month early. They have all been paid for february even though they are not working. They were working once every two days but still getting full slary. Even those that had recently joined the school were still paid an extra month, so they had a bit of a result. They are all being released from their contracts/visas. They still have some affiliation with their adult teaching, but the children have finished. |

I have a friend who is a director of a Swaton school in Daegu, and he's still around. Swaton is a franchise school with over 20 franchisees in Korea. As with most chain schools, you buy the name, corporate identity and framework at the beginning, but the financial management/marketing/solvency of your school is done at the school level. It's called franchising. Just like on the same principle as Subway, McDonalds, etc...or Wonderland, ECC, Kwak Yong-il, etc...
There are not many companies out there that have 10+ schools under their direct management, that would be part of a house of cards that could all collapse and collectively shut down. If that were to happen, it would be news, not a rumor. |

Actually,
I know someone who works in the Swaton head office. Only the corporate schools are consolidating. The students from Apgujung will be bussed to another corporate branch.
The school in Apgujung has an SAT business which will be its future focus. |

The one in Hwajeong closed. The teachers got an excellent deal. Some guy who worked only 8 weeks got full severance, a month's pay for working only 2 weeks into the month, and a plane ticket. I wish I could get a lucky break like that.
Oh yeah, in his last 2 weeks he only taught for about 4 hours a day. |
