Hi there,

We're two New Zealanders looking to venture into the world of teaching English to Koreans.

We've been offered a post in Kangs language institute in Kangnam, Seoul. I've read one negative post about Kangs in general online but as Kangs is a chain am not certain that that Kangs and this one that we're going to (maybe) is the same...

SO would really appreciate anyones feedback as to whether they've heard anything about Kangs language institute in Gang-nam (or Kang-nam)
Thanks,
E and K

Damn.... I thought there was a sticky about this somewhere....

DO YOUR HOMEWORK - firsthand.

Talk to the current teachers AWAY from the school and get their honest opinions. They will almost NEVER tell you the real story when the boss is standing over their shoulder (they want their final pay and no hassel) and listening in. Get their e-mail addresses.

SPECIFICALLY ask about: Pay and pay days, deposits, deductions, pensions, medical insurance, hours of work, shift times, how many classes, OVERTIME - (illusion or real?), holidays, when and how many at a time, housing- get photos emailed to you, field trips, YOUR BOSS and your supervisor, anything else that you may wonder about.

This is ESPECIALLY true of chain hakwons because they can very significantly from location to location and even one year to another as the staff change.

The only Kangs I have heard about, assuming it's Kangs Power Institute, is in the process of really messing over a friend....
doesnt mean much though, as each hagwon is its own, only owning a franchise tag. I have heard ALL wonderlands are scary places though.
