Well?

I sleep on a bed. Used to sleep on a really thin yo. Killed me. Then a sponge-yo for a few years. I remember so well the day I bought my first bed in Korea. It was one of those otherwise incidental purchase decisions that bind you to a place. "Well, I guess I actually live in Korea now"

When I got to Korea, almost none of the Korean adults I knew slept on beds, even if many children did by then. And it wasn't at all uncommon that half of one's (younger) expat friends also slept on yos. And of the relatively few Westerners married to Koreans who I knew well enough to visit their homes, more than half slept on yos.

Today, I wonder if even 20% of foreigners in Korea (excl. 3-D workers) sleep on a yo.

Speaking of piles of dirty laundry, if you smooth it out enough, it's pretty comfortable, considering.

I have a bed. I have a useless carpet, too. Ooh, posh.

I sleep on a yo too, but I seem to be the exception among the people I know. They take up so much less space, and in the winter they work so much better with ondol heating. It's like sleeping on a radiator, I love it. Plus, I've always beds interfere with the heating of the room using ondol, so you end up spending more money on heat.

My apartment is pretty small anyway, so a bed would take up way too much space. I couldn't live without having a sofa to sit on, though.

A yo just makes sense for me.

Same.

I am definitely the exception among my friends. No one else sleeps on a yo. I think it's great though... perfect for a small apartment.

You need an option for cheap-ass hagwon bed with a yo on top. Otherwise I'd be sleeping on springs.

A reasonably comfy bed. My back can't handle 요's.

On a normal bed. I do like the Korean floor bedding though. Smile

Yo's are fine if you lay down 5 or 6 of em.

Air mattresses are cool and compact if you have a machine to pump em up, but they don't handle repeated extra curricular demands too well.

A big sponge is alright too, if you're concerned about space

now, it's standard bed all around.

ditto. Hated those things. Although it was pretty cool to roll it up and stuff it in a wardrobe and sit on cushions on the floor on those cold winter days. (But the nights! My back!)

Sleeping on the floor makes me think I'm on a camping trip.

I wonder if anyone has a water bed? I don't think I've ever seen one here.
