Hey guys and gals,

i just found out that i have an open class in June. it's no biggie but i have to have my plan in next week! i think it is a team teaching open class (finally i will experience team teaching...it's been ten months).

i was just wondering about your experiences. i have been told by other teachers that there is some "prepping" of classes beforehand. the only thing i really want to avoid is making my school look stupid because i love it here.

how do you prepare? what did you do? how did it go?

also my school is a lower level high school in my area, i swear some of my kids cant count to ten, dont know the days of the week, and i have a sneaking suspicion that come of them don't know the alphabet. but there are some bright ones.

thanks for your help!

Hi,

I too was just told of the open class. I also teach in an extremely low rural high school. Some of my students also don't know the alphabet, etc. I've been told that it will be a team teaching gig as well, something I have never done either.

From what I've been told, there will be about 15 or so teachers present, some native, some Korean. There will also be a few suits from the Office of Education.

I am guessing the more rehearsed the better. Whether it resembles what you usually do in the class is not important.

I am sure someone else knows more about what to expect and how do perform. I, too, would like to hear from the old hats at this.

Thanks,

Rehearsed class is not the answer. They just come off as dry, boring and like watching a low-budget PBS broadcast.

A solid, educational, fun lesson plan which the students will have no big problem doing is the go.

Do a review activity on stuff they have been learning lately.
