I've recently returned to Korea to start a new job, and I've discovered that I won't get paid until July 10th, so.....

I was planning on using my credit cards and my costco membership in order to eat well for a few weeks - since I'm short on cash - but today Costco told me that they don't accept heathen, high-risk credit card companies, such as Mastercard and Visa...they only accept Samsung credit cards...Tae-ha-min-guk clapclap clap clap..pbbbbt.

So, what would you guys do if you had to live off your credit cards for 6 weeks? I don't want to eat at restaurants every day, so if anyone has any suggestions....

thanks..

Yeah, most of the E-Mart, HomePlus, Carrefour type stores will accept a foreign card. I think I even used one at my little local supah once when I was extra strapped.

It's just Costco that's persnickety.

Dumb question time.....

So why do you have to wait for 2 months to get paid??

May 18 - July 10?? Illegal among other things....

You could do cash advances. If your card is set up with a PIN, you should be able to get it taken care of at any machine that accepts foreign cards (I've found KB bank outside machines to work best).

Even in Canada, you can't use VISA or Mastercard at Costco, they only take American Express. (At least they used to)

And debit cards - my Shinhan ATM card works fine at Costco in US. But not here.

re:ttompatz

Came in last week for a week of training at CDI...I don't start until May 28th, and we get paid on the 10th of every month....So, July 10th is the paydate for the month of June.

If you're at a private institute, you may be able to arrange for a cash advance on your first paycheck. The first year I was here, my hagwon had a simple form to fill out, and I could get up to 300,000 at a time, which can last you quite a while if you're careful.
