Hi All,
All too often we hear stories about how people get ripped of and lied to by their hagwons but it is not always that way.
I left my hagwon and got all the pay that I was owed, flat deposit, days off not taken and (most of) my airfare, all paid straight into my home account.
I know that getting just what you should be getting should not be cause for celebration but you hear so often about the bad cases that it is nice to hear about good ones. I was slightly suspicious when they said "Yes" to everything, I thought it was too good to be true and doubted whether I would actually see any money. A new teacher at the school who had been teaching for a few weeks without a contract was also suddenly under pressure to sign so I thought they might want her signature before ripping me off. Not the case.
Are there more bad results than good or are they just the ones you hear about most? |

I think that the ones you hear most about are the bad ones. If people are getting what they expect, then you usually don't hear from them.
In my case 4 out of 5 schools were really good and the only really bad one (SLP in Kangdong) only lasted for 4 days before I told them to stuff it and I moved on. The remaining 4 contracts were conpleted happily and the departures were full of hugs, handshakes and good wishes.
My last school (before this one) even went above and beyond the contractual obligations and gave nice bonuses several times as well as the usual gifts at Chusok and Solnal.
