Everytime I come back to my apartment... new ones are there, and unlike the fat, lazy, and slow American ones... these ones are a chore to catch, and kill. Last night I spent the better part of thirty minutes tracking one of the little bastards until I finally got it, this has to stop! Currently I have about 10 bites, and have taken to keeping all of the windows closed at all times (plus patching all the small holes in the screens with bandaids)... but still, new ones appear!
Where do they keep coming from? And more important... what can I do to detour them (don't say bug spray, citronella candles, or other, obvious, things)?? |

I still get mosquitoes in my apartment too, here off the southeast coast, even though it's mid-October.
They come in through the lighting fixtures in the ceiling.
Buy a mosquito canopy net for over the bed. It's white, looks good and is quite effective at bedtime. Ask your deirector or other teachers to help you buy one online and it'll come in very handy next summer too. Well worth it. |

Oh, I really sympathize with you... and was having a very similar problem just recently. For three days last week, I didn't get hardly any sleep because the mosquitoes in my place seemed to have turned super smart. I wouldn't see them all day, and then once the lights went out, one would attack me... and strangely only one at a time. After 20 minutes of tracking and trying to set it up, I'd kill it. But sadly, 5 minutes later, the process would repeat itself. This would go on till about 10 were killed a night, and you can imagine how many sleeping hours were lost over those three days. It was terrible. And I had one of those plug-ins right next to my bed, and it did nothing. Anyway.. they have not come back since I sprayed my room with bug spray and sealed a crack in the door... but I'm not sure those things had anything to do with it. It could have been leaving the windows open, because it was cool where I live recently. Or maybe... just maybe I killed them all. Hope this might be comforting to you... that it may just be a three day thing, is all. Good luck. |

i've been using the home-mate. if you're not familiar, it's a little electrical thing that cooks these little cakes loaded with bug dope.
it works for me but you have to keep it up.
and yes, the mogies here in korea seem 100x smarter than back home. they are invincible. like little cylon raiders. fuckin' bastards. |

OMG... I thought I was the only one... I've actually perfected the art of making a tent over my whole body with my sheet and having a small breathing hole.
It works till I roll over in my sleep and wake up eaten alive...
Damn I hate those little fuckers... |

Look for mosquito-sized holes in your pad. Sounds redundant but I realized that they were coming from the bathroom (big dumb pipe in there) or the laundry room (vents big enough for any insect), so I slapped some paper over those, and I expect my mosquito hunt tonight to be fruitless. |

I would rather use bug spray (Korean equivalent of Raid) than those electric thingys. A few minutes of breathing bug spray vs. all night breathing those vapors from the machine.........I'll take the bug spray. |

What about those little things you can buy in the convenience stores, light it for a minute and then let smolder? My ex used one on a particularly bad night and it wokred fine, didn't smell bad either. |

Try buying some of that stick-on foam sealing strip and make sure that all your windows and doors seal properly. I've managed to get it down to about two mozzies a week in my place now. I think they follow me through the door when I come home at night.
What I really want is one of those blue lights with an electrified grill. I feel it would be really satisfying to hear the little buggers fry... BZZT! Maybe it's the capital punishment aspect. Does anyone know where I can find one? |

Last year I had hundreds of annoying mosquitos from July to November, this year hardly any. Strange. For a satisfying mosquito killing experience you can buy electrified tennis racket type things at the rest-stops on highways. I expect you can buy them other places too but that's the only place I've seen them.
I bought a mosquito net from Homeplus about 4 or 5 months ago in anticipation of lots of mosquitos but I haven't needed it. It looks pretty though. I don't know if they are still in season though. It cost 10-15kwon.

I agree the mosquitos here are horrid and dam hard to catch. Their bites hurt too and are even more itchy then the ones back home.
I had a mosquito fly up my nose when I was sleeping last night. Gross I know. I tried snorting it out but, I think it went into my head. This is now what I do. I close all the lights off while I'm on my computer or in my room because they are really attracted to the light I've noticed. Secondly, I stay about for about ten minutes tracking any flying mosquitoes until I kill them.
Then I sleep with the blankets over my ears and only keep a small peephole for breathing. Seems to work. |

Don't you realize that 500 Koreans got malaria last year!
I'd be staying in a hotel until this was under control if I was you. Malaria lasts a life time! It recures and is very unpleasant-- even fatal. A mosquito net should be the very least you do.
Have you been to a doctor?
You ought to be vaccinated right away-- if it isn't too late. |

hunting mosquitos is now my new favorite pasttime. I grab the can of "Mogi Death Spray" and track the little bastards down. When I spot one loafing around on my ceiling, and sneak up all quiet-and-like, then I slowly work up a nice death clowd around him (don't do direct right away!), and finally blast him head on. When they try to run, they hit the cloud of death, and then find themselves reeling towards the ground. I always give them one extra blast when they reach the floor for good measure. Ah, simple pleasures. |
