So, what hideous misdemeanours of this nature have you beheld? It seems to be particularly bad with the youngsters. I don't know what their mothers are thinking, dressing them this way, but today I saw a girl wearing orange shoes, red pants, and a pink shirt. She didn't look at all bothered by the combination.

No this is not a topic of world-shaking nature but I'm bored so indulge me. Wink

What doesn't appeal to my senses is when some of the guys decide to wear say, cream coloured jeans, and a slightly creamier coloured jumper! My boyfriend wears navy trousers and a navy jumper and I wish he wouldn't. Oh well I'm sure he gets more embarrassed from some of my 'ensembles'.

Here's a couple I can think of...

Usually I think a lot of the Korean women look great and dress well. It's not my own personal style, but on them, knee length skirts & twin sets look great Very Happy . However, I am repeatedly amazed at how their ensemble is ruined for me because of what's going on from the knee down... white fish nets Shocked (urgh! puhlease!) with ghastly beige wicked witch shoes or just plain awful shoes that are dirty and practically falling apart. It's become a hobby of mine whilst travelling on the subway to check out what's going on from the knee down.

The other absolute killer for me is all those middle school girls in their school uniforms wearing white tights and black running shoes. I have this thing about white tights & stockings...

And those grotesquely large hair scrunchies.

One final one - jeans with sneakers - an eyesore that is certainly not unique to Koreans.

what's so bad about jeans with sneakers?

anyhow, i hate the fact that a lot of korean women think heels go with everything. only prostitutes can carry off track pants with high heels.

What's wrong with jeans and sneakers? Practically a uniform in Nova Scotia....

I can beat that. Being on the beach in Sogwipo, women in bikinis using the outdoor shower before or after swimmng, WHILE WEARING HIGH HEELS.

In Australia, it's an absolute no-no unless you want to look like Jerry Seinfeld...

Last week there was a woman at my gym working out with High Heels on!!!

I think in general the people here dress much better than people at home. They take more care in terms of their appearance I mean....this is just a generalization of course.....there are many exceptions.

In Canada or the US it's nothing to see someone wearing jeans and tennis shoes. I wouldn't even look twice.

yeah, it's hard to wrestle crocs with Nikes on... Wink

Truth be told, I find the shirt buttoned to the top without a tie to look pretty idiotic. But since I'm spiritually in Japan, the fashion mix and matches here are small peas compared to there.

Ask Matko about that.

What about in Korea?

It's weird, hey? Kind of ironic ... I'd be interested to hear what other Aussies and Kiwis & even our British cousines have to say about this matter.

If I see a person wearing jeans and sneakers, I immediately think they MUST be from America or Canada. Aussies just don't do it, unless it's coupled with a baseball cap worn backward, a UCLA hooded windcheater (ah, that would be "sweatshirt" to other folk) and crotch-at-the-knees-and-my-keys-on-a-chain-dangling-from-my-pocket stle pair of jeans.

My point is, it's not a cultural norm in Australia to wear sneakers/runners/training shoes with your jeans (aish! so many words for the same thing!!!) unless you're trying to achieve a particular "look".

Gym wear has to be the absolute limit in tacky dress. Fishnet everywhere in all colors, legwarmers (still in the 80's mix-n-match), sparkles/spangles and everything in between. Underwear-sized tops and flared pants with more sparkles or flowing fringes. Tights - even on the hottest of days, and the military look with black (plastic-?) accessories. The old 'Physical' headbands and other bright-colored hair accessories. All of this topped of with full make up. The only place I've seen anything slightly comparable is in an Austin Powers movie.

Now that the weather is hot, the fashion mistake I see a lot is the layering of clothing, especially when having a shirt, regular t-shirt, women's undershirt and then the bra. Wow, aren't they baking in that? Or when a woman is wearing two t-shirts because the outline of her bra might show if she wore only one. I mean give me a break. Be confident about your bodies... they are great.

(I might get a lot of crap for the above opinion, but it is how I see it.)

the other day my wife and i were running to jump onto the subway before the doors shut and a young lady was doing the same just ahead of us. just as she crossed the threshold i managed to clip the back of her shoe (just some dress shoe) and the thing fell through the crack between the train and the platform. i mean, that thing came right off her foot.

naturally, the doors were already closing when we managed to squeeze on, so there we were, the 3 of us, me, my wife, and "shoeless joe". i busted out laughing uncontrolably. i mean, what could i do? the shit was already well into the fan. i was crying the laughter hurt so much. amidst the hearty laughter i was able to squeeze out a "sorry" or two.

needless to say, shoeless joe was less than pleased. in fact, she was on the verge of tears. oh, poor thing. i suggested to my wife that we would most likely have to buy the young lady a new pair of shoes, but my wife is more knowledgeable than i about such things, and quickly warned me of the potential price. i was aghast! i can understand that shoes cost a pretty penny, but WHO THE HELL would wear expensive dress shoes WITH SHORTS...

ahhhhh. so the "poor girl" was a victim of her own fashion sense. too bad. i began to laugh much much harder (eventhough i was trying not to...really). the harder i tried not to laugh, the worse it became (you know the feeling).

well, i'm not a total d*ckweed, so we accompanied the young lady back to the station where the incident took place and managed to retrieve her "dear shoe". while we were waiting for the subway helper to fish her shoe from the tracks, the young lady berated me harshly. i surely deserved it, but hey, i did in fact go back to the station to help her retrieve her precious, and i had offered to buy her a new pair of shoes.
