hey, quick question, i'm gonna be coming to SK in mid june and will need a computer asap when i get there. I'm going to be in Wonju, where is the cheapest/best place to shop for computer parts? I'm going to bringing over a hard drive and vid card with me so all i need is case/mobo/cpu/sound card/speakers/monitor.
I read the thread on yongsan, where exactly is yongsan though? Is it a district in Seoul or is it the city that google earth found for me that is in south west SK? |

Yongsan is in Seoul, near Yongsan station. It is the best place to buy computer components, my brother just assembled one a few months ago.
Here is a good subway link
http://www.nearsubway.com
I think there is a tunnel that connects the subway to the electronics market, but here is the way I take.
Exit the station through the front and go to your left. At the far left of the property is a pathway that goes under a bridge, go through the path and turn left when you hit the street. You will see a huge tunnel, take the tunnel and the Electronics market will be directly infront of you. I think the PC parts are in the largest buidling.
Good luck. |

Custom built desktops (while you wait) in Yongsan Electronics Market are cheap and efficient. Intel 3gHz CPU with 160 gig hd, DVD/CD-RW, 1 gig RAM, case & 350w PS and 17" LCD monitor for around w700,000 (as of May 18 ). Preinstalled with winXP home SP2 [OEM](English or Korean), Office 2003, and Hangul 2005.
Yongsan Electronics market is at Yongsan subway/rail station in Central Seoul, just north of the river on the DARK blue (#1) line. It is 2 stops south of Seoul station (the main railroad station in Seoul).

lol . Not Seoul. There is a mini techno mart here in Wonju. They have their stuff pretty cheap too. I have done a lot of business with them. If you want to be able to just hop on the bus or take a $3 taxi ride, im me or pm me when you get into town. I will be more than happy to help you get set up.
Also, if you need help setting up the pc (i have built many), let me know. |

It's a little concerning that they only gave you a 300W PSU on that spec. You should have at least a 350W, and ideally a 400W. |

Yongsan, and every store there (online), is just a phone call away. |

A 300W PSU is alright for regular computer use. If you're thinking about upgrading later on with lots of stuff, then you're going to need more. However, there's another question worth looking at: quality.
I built my desktop about six months ago. I was lucky enough to have found a vender at Yongsan who was more than willing to do some serious legwork to find me all the parts I wanted. I had to do it myself, yes, but it wasn't that difficult, and I was able to get name-brand parts for everything.
Of particular note was my insistence on a name-brand PSU. There are a few good names out there (I went with Antec because, though a bit overpriced, it came standard with an excellent case), and I really wouldn't skimp on this item. Obviously problems are very rare (otherwise you'd have a lot of very very angry computer owners), but the PSU is the only component in you computer that has the ability, if defective, to literally fry any other part (ok, maybe not the case, but you get the idea).
If you're willing to take part of a day assembling the thing, I'd be more than happy to tell you about the vendor I go to. They mostly sell keyboards and blank DVDs, so when I wanted to buy a whole desktop worth of parts they were fairly ecstatic and made calls all over the place to get me what I wanted. Oh, they also charged me at or less than Danawa's best prices on everything.
Good stuff. |
