what about the booked flight?
i've been working through a recruiter and he said the school would book my flight when they receive my contract (that appeared to be an automated e-mail, so maybe he wasn't aware of it) now he's saying i must book the flight and they'll re-imburse me. but i've looked at the contract and nowhere does it say in clear words that they will re-imburse me. i'm leaving in 2 weeks, and i'm wondering what i should do?
should i insist they pay for my flight, or take the risk..and if i buy it should i ask them to fax me a signed letter stating they will re-imburse me on arrival?
thanks in advance. |

It's increasingly common for schools these days to reimburse upon a person arriving. At least it's not like Japan yet where you only get a ticket home, and arriving is your cost. |

Your first mistake was going through a recruiter,as any TESOL pro will tell you.As for being reimbursed for the ticket after you arrive, some schools will and some will not, even if the inital agreement specified reimbursement. The hakwons(private schools) have been known to lie occassionally. |

Hey Blake,
I remember reading a couple of days ago that there was a way that you could book a flight and have the bill sent to your employer, but I can't remember which thread it was in. It sounded like a good idea. I've tried doing a search of the forum but with no luck. If I find it I'll let you know. Definitely get the school to pay for the ticket. I even had one school offer to put the money in my bank account so that I could buy the ticket. |

I did this and it turned out fine. Sometimes foreign credit cards can be rejected ect. If they are trustworthy you will be fine. If not, welcome to Korea. |

No.
Not using a recruiter is the what people say when have already used a recruiter to get their first job (or more) and have lined up enough contacts in Korea believe that they no longer require a recruiter. |

Tell them you don't have enough cash to purchase the ticket up front. Give them a bank account number and tell them once they wire enough money into your account you will book a flight. If they are not comfortable doing this tell them to purchase a ticket and FEDEX it to you asap.
If the company is going to pay for the flight anyway there is really no legitimate reason why they would not pay for it up front.
PS. have you talked to the school director? Why don't you get his number and deal with him (or her) directly? Recruiters suck! |
