Okay, I'm not really familiar with DVD players but here goes. I've had a Daewoo dvd player since I purchased it in September 2004. It has worked well, no problems. Until last week. I was playing a DVD and it completely froze. It also kept repeating "poor disk quality" in Korea and said "error" on the dvd player itself. Okay, took out other disks that had worked in the past and the same thing happened("error", "poor disk"). It also makes a whirring sound like it is about to play but doesn't. So, I'm not sure what the problem is. It would probably cost me more to repair it than what I purchased it for (40,000 won from another foreigner). Any assist on this? Thanks. |

I believe your only recourse at this point is an exorcism. |

Sounds like the stepping motor is going/gone or the laser is shot. Either way... about 90-150 for repairs (if they can still get parts) and you can get a new one (basic) from Home Plus / E-mart / Lotte department store for about 98k won. |

Sorry to hear about these problems........yeah, get a new one.
I'd recommend my Phillips DVP 3000k. All regions, Karaoke, photos, everything including great music sound..........
Only glitch ever was it swallowed a Van Morrison CD. I don't know what the Dutch have against Van the Man but it just disappeared into the machine (I kid you not!). I used to be able to shake it and here it roll around in its belly. Lately no sound. Still it plays like a charm but I'm not trying any more Van Morrison!!!

If you haven't tried already, unplug the DVD player and wait for a minute or two before replugging it. That might do the trick. |

Maybe I'm a kook, but you won't catch me recommending a DVD player that eats disks... |
