My curiosity has been piqued by another thread that actually has little to do with this one (and yes, I know this has probably been asked before). How many of you have been here 5 years or more but are not married, and never have been, to a Korean? I haven't been here that long yet but I could certainly see it happening. Even if there were any suitable candidates, marriage seems like such a commitment to the place.

I've been here since 1997 minus one year. But, I'm not a lifer. I never married a Korean and that is probably why I'm not a lifer. Married to a foreigner? Not yet...........

Over 10 years in Korea and over 8 years with the same girlfriend, but I've evaded the marriage farce.

Thanks, but it must have been under poor lighting when we met.

I do not believe you. There is no way that you are older than I am! Now I really feel like a hag! Confused IF that is true, that you must have looked 11 when you were 22.

Getting married to a foreigner next month; we met five years ago in Korea and are still together. A very exclusive club, methinks.

I still got carded when I went home in '99 when I was 28. Don't think it would happen now, but I've always looked younger than my age.

I owe it all to not drinking, not smoking, stuffing myself on chocolate, drinking coffee to excess, avoiding vegetables and other growth, eating as much meat as I can stuff into myself, working like a dog during the semester, playing like a dog during my vacations, untold hours in front of a keyboard, a slovenly lifestyle in which I wipe up spills with my socks, laughing a whole lot, and really, just damn good DNA (my sister was getting carded up to and around her fortieth birthday).

But trust me, should we meet in real life you'll notice the laugh lines and brow furrows.

So it's not a club of one. 5 years just seems like the mark-if you're here that long, you'll probably be here a good portion of your working life, least. Though maybe not. Maybe it's just because I'm older, 5 years is a big chunk of my life these days.

Though I may never make it to the 5 year mark since I quit my job today and don't know if I'll be back, but that's a topic for another post.
