... Following the incident, many teachers go to work fearing they will be the next victims of threats, intimidation and violence at the hands of students and their parents.

What the article does not report is that the students had to eat their lunch quickly because the school's cafeteria was so small. The fifteen minute rule was set in order to process all the students through in time. A young student threw up as a result of trying to finish his/her lunch in the alloted time and thus the mother went totally ballistic. The parent has called for the teacher's resignation.
This is ridiculous. Although the written assignment for not finishing lunch is overboard, calling for the teachers resignation is totally unwarranted. The fault lies with the inadequate cafeteria facilities and the whoever made the decision to try and get so many students through the cafe. Why were they not allowed to eat lunch in their classroom? However, teachers have recently been unable to scold misbehaving students or employ corporal punishment by using the so-called "rod of love.'' |
I hear the "rod of love" is still used in universities to discipline naughty female students. |
