We have a new teacher starting at our uni... he's presently on a visa with a hogwan, but has secured his letter of release.
The uni job starts July 3rd. His hogwan wants to keep him until the last possible day (of course), and the hogwan director wants him to do a visa run on the 5th of June to Fukuoka to make use of a national holiday on the 6th of June. I'm pretty sure the consulate will be closed as it's a Korean national holiday... at least that's how things used to operate, but the director tells him it will be open.
Furthermore, I doubt if the consulate will process a visa (almost) a month before the contract starts.
I advised him too wait until the end of June and take a couple of days off to do it then... If he does what his director is asking, I believe he will be very illegal as his visa will be for the uni while he is finishing at the hogwan. If he didn't need the money, it would be a fine way to get out of work in June, but this isn't the case.
Finally, his hogwan has treated him well with regards to starting at the uni (ie letter of release), so it isn't desireable to burn any bridges.
This question has probably been covered many times, but after an overwhelming search result, figured I'd just post and see what replies I get.
Thoughts, comments?
Thanks in advance. |

| No consulate works its national holidays. It's like going to the French embassy on 14 July. |

+The embassy will process a VISA whenever someone wants to apply (as long as he has the visa confirmation number. )
+Your entry validity period for the visa will expire 90 days after issue.
+The period of sojourn will be 1 year (E2) or 2 years (E1) from date of entry into Korea.
+The Korean Embassy and Korean Consulates will be CLOSED on June 6 (Korean holiday).
+If he applies for his visa on the 5th, he will be able to pick it up on the 7th and will need 2 nights in Japan instead of the usual 1.
Hope that took care of your query. |

Thanks everyone for the replies. Very timely.
Mike, won't be at poker, headed out for the weekend.
Forgive my ignorance... I didn't realize that pommie would be a reference for a Canadian.
So, the question is, have you worked out who it is yet? BTW, the darts game still isn't up to par. |
