I read the book and saw the movie. Now, allow me to say this:

I understand what the critics meant by "laughing during a pivital point". Guys...it wasn't bad at all. I definitely don't feel like I wasted 7,000WON. Frankly, I enjoyed it.

One last comment. I agree (as stated in a previous post) with most of the people out there regarding this movie:

"Oh yee of little faith...The Lord tests us everyday. Whether with money, lust, greed, you name it, it surrounds us like air. If a movie is strong enough to waiver you, then your faith in The Lord was never solid to begin with"....

I'm pretty much convinced that it's a good movie. (Hey, French critics panned the Iraq war, too, and look how entertaining that's turned out... )

Found it pretty dull, even boring at a couple of points, and the end was highly unsatisfactory...

Oh yes, i generally dug the historical overlap effect.

Newton's ghost, fading into a surreal crusade landscape etc.

I found the camera action to be poor. In several scenes I was almost nauseous from all the swirling camera angles. It was annoying.

I watched it today and liked it. I've not read the book.

I saw it yesterday and thought it was pretty good, and I haven't read the book. My only problem was the Latin and French bits, as they were subtiteled in Korean! The French I could just about make out, but not the Latin...

I saw this yesterday...and yeah it was ok for what it was.

I've never read the novel and honestly never paid much attention to the hype surrounding it but I was expecting a much better film. For a movie based on a book that sold a stupid amount of copies I was expecting better writing especially considering the potential depth of the subject matter. This seemed to me like a lightweight hollywood treasure seeking romp across the world, which I guess it was. I'm able to suspend my disbelief in a cinema but there were a lot of parts in this film that were...umm...hard to believe. I'm not talking about the controversial history of it either...I mean the plot. It reminded me of an Indiana Jones movie, just not as good. For me the French and Latin bits were the best because I couldn't understand them and therefore they had an air of mystery about them. I could imagine they were saying something truly revelatory, and perhaps even mending the script.

The journey this film took me on brought me to a point where at the very end of the film as the camera zoomed into the face of the Mary statue I was honestly half expecting it to give the audience a wink.

A number of years ago I read a few apparently factual books about this Holy Grail, bloodline of Jesus stuff, (not by Dan Brown) and while a lot of it seemed a bit of a stretch, it made for a good story. This Da Vinci code version of the conspiracy seemed very, very watered down to me.

All that said...I don't feel ripped off, just surprised. I'm guessing the simplistic nature of the film might not be a true reflection on the original novel and the information within it but rather a result of the requirements of a high budget movie and I imagine this is an effective way to get a message to a wider audience...wrap it in a popular story...kind of like the bible really.
