Hello again,

I am back on the case with job hunting again and stumbled accross a vacancy in Yeongdeok! I can't find a great deal on this site or the net with the exemption of the Yeongdeok Travel site and wondered whether it was an area anyone here had any first hand experience with?

From what I have seen so far it looks very nice, very small but very nice. However I think I may still prefer to be based on the South Coast or Jeju/Geoje!

So far I am aware it is on the northern border of Pohang (A city I don't like the sound of)

The whole westside of the city is coastal with approx 8 beaches

It is an area renound for Snow Crabs and Peaches!

Does anyone know the population size of this area? Or anything else of use? sport facilities, department stores, transport, pc bangs?

Any feedback would be most appreciated!

I'd take a Yeongdeok job in a heartbeat. I visited there last year. Great crab, great beaches. Conveniently located near Pohang and Gangwon-do. Plus an hour and a bit away from Daegu or Andong for your weekends.

Given the population of the county, I'd reckon that its a public school that you're looking at, rather than a hagwon. If that's the case, it'd be good to know if the school is actually in yeongdeok-eup or if its in a myeon. This may help figure out whats in that area for businesses, services, amenities, etc...If you talk to them, ask if its in Yeongdeok-eup or Gang-ku-myeon(phonetically). Hopefully, its one of those two, as they are the most populated areas of the county.

PS. Don't be scared off by Pohang. Popular city with eslcafe posters who've lived there, judging by the massive thread dedicated to it: http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?t=8763

I haven't lived at Yeongdeok but my wife's parents live about 15kms north of it. Yeongdeok town itself is a bit of shithole- rather poor/ run-down and very small. If you like nature it would be a great place to live because the air is very clean (compared to big city korea). I went cycling through there- there's still lots of snakes and Korean wild dogs and deer-like animals. The secondary roads are really quiet but asphalted so there are heaps of really good long distance cycling you could do. There's the lovely Juwangsan NP- quitre small but because it's one of the least popular can still be quiet even in hiking season. On the coast there are some decent beaches - we cycled to one North of Yeongdeok called Bul-go-rae and it was respectable and even had a lovely hamlet of traditional houses (with real people living in them and not a tourist in sight) a few kms inland.
